Jan. I truly dislike arguing about Healthcare with you. My personal beliefs are that you should not have to worry about healthcare considering what you have gone through. It is an imperfect system. One that I and really most of the electorate don’t understand enough.

You asked what have the Republicans done to help people. One large program came when Republicans pushed for the Prescription Drug Program which many people like during the Bush Administration.

Lately Republicans are defending women’s honor regarding Common Core… http://stockman.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/stockman-asks-obama-to-fire-duncan-over-anti-women-comments

Republicans in many areas are still very involved in conservation. http://fitzpatrick.house.gov/press-release/fitzpatrick-recognized-conservation-work

Here are the main parts of the Republican platform.

Energy Independence

Lower Health Care Costs and Bolster Research

Expand Educational Opportunities for Families and students.

Simplify the tax code

Control Spending

Immigration Reform

It is true that parts of the Republican party have always been against this massive expansion of the government. But other parts wanted to have input in the ACA and they were shut down. End of Story.

Jan, one party embraces big government. One embraces it less. Whether you like it or not. The Gallant Old Party started out standing for individual rights. It still does to this day, plus the following… Free speech. Women’s suffrage. These were all causes the Republican Party adopted early on. So, too, were reducing the size of government, streamlining bureaucracy, and returning power to individual states. With a core belief in the primacy of individuals, the Republican Party, since its inception, has been at the forefront of the fight for individuals’ rights in opposition to a large, intrusive government.

Their job is not to start large programs generally. It is start and fund programs that people need and are constitutional.

From the Republican Governors website . . .The American ideal isn’t about dependency on the government. The American dream, which makes us exceptional compared to other countries in the world is based on that here, in America, you can do anything and be anything no matter what your background. In America we take a day off to celebrate the 4th of July and not the 15th of April because we value our independence from the government not our dependence on the government.

Do not misunderstand me. We need local, state, and national governments. We need to help people when they need help. We do not however want full dependency on the Federal Government.

Each party has its problems. No doubt. Some of you may not agree with this at all. That is why we vote, to get what we hope will work.

The Republicans that I hang with want the States to be the petrie dishes of innovation. The closer we get to the elected the officials, the more accountability.

DC is broken in many ways.
