Scooters are just plain great! Especially for city driving. Great on gas mileage, quiet (compared to MC’s), easy to operate, etc.
A main reason that I feel scooters are good for city riders is this: All mental “processing” energy can be spent on paying attention to hazards of all types: cars, potholes, dogs etc. No energy is spent on shifting, clutching, seeking neutral, etc. Twist ‘n go – that’s all. Easy.
I ride a 250cc scooter made by Kymco (Taiwan). Excellent bike in fit and finish – I’d recommend to anyone. Kymco’s have larger wheels too – mine are 16″ which lends to a very stable ride.
Keep in mind you need a MC endorsement to ride a scooter larger than 49cc – but the class is a great way to learn not only riding skills, but mental strategies regarding general safety. I’d say the class is a must for anyone riding any powered two-wheeler.
When I see you out riding, I’ll come and ride a ways with you..
