Mega-pothole alert for southbound Fauntleroy Way

This was so startling we didn’t even stop to note exactly what cross-street we were passing. But the blanket warning would be, avoid the left southbound lane of Fauntleroy in the Fairmount Springs vicinity (a couple curves before Morgan Junction) – our right wheel landed in a HUGE, jarring rut just now. Going to call 684-ROAD and report online ASAP but meantime, wanted to get out the word.

I have already had to replace a tire in the last couple months along this stretch of Fauntleroy – so thanks for the heads up! And I hope your tire isn’t flat in the morning like mine was…

we are still here working at pb&j and it appears that the road repair is out there working. A few road repair trucks have been going by!

Wow, I didn’t even have a chance to call, somebody else must have. I’d go out and snap a photo but I have three community meetings to write up. Hope it really is fixed ASAP, that was NASTY!!!!

Just drove the stretch between California and Alaska this morning, after reading this post and was especially noticing the unbelievable amount of holes, patches, etc. That whole stretch needs a serious re-pave!!!

I live on Fauntleroy in that area, and the road is just awful. We drive down to Thirftway all the time, hoping that we won’t have our heads hit the roof of our car from the next bad pothole. I haven’t seen (felt?) this one yet – guess I’ve been lucky. Will have to watch more carefully.

They are always repairing that stretch, several times a year. It just needs to be re-paved.

I drive that stretch of road on the way to work and over the last few months have come up with this strategy: drive in the right lane past Juneau and then change to the left lane to make the turn onto Morgan street. Occasionally folks drive that stretch too quickly and the potholes and poor pavement send their cars wonky. Thanks Mom and Dad for the Defensive Driving Course.

We have lived in this area for many years, and that intersection of Juneau & Fauntleroy SW has had many bad accidents.Especially late wkend nites when the party boys have had too much fun, driving WAY too fast, and lose control on that double curve. The family on the corner have had cars crashed into their garage, Iat least twice. That’s why there are HUGE boulders on the strip between the street and their buildings now. One fellow wrapped his car sideways around a utility pole and somehow managed to drive away. And not a scratch on the pole????? I avoid that cross street as much as possible. I wish there were more police officers giving away “free” tickets on the ferry traffic speeders on the FauntleroyHighway……..

I blew out a tire on that pothole a couple of months ago! It looked like it was “fixed” but obviously not properly!

  • grr April 9, 2008 (9:52 pm)

Yup..it’s STUNNING how BADLY some of those ‘FIXES’ are!! I won’t ride the motorcycle on Fautleroy anymore. It’s too dangerouse. I lost a tire on the car last month to one as well (and it was a DAMN nice, brand new Goodyear Eagle with Kevlar sidewalls, and it STILL killed it). Thank god for the Road Hazard warrantee.

SHEEESH..when are they just gonna dig that stretc of road up and re do it????

Yeah, I think that people should band together and get a lawsuit against the city to pay for tires, re-alignments, torn ball joints whatever else caused by horrible unmaintained roads.

I lost my right front tire here on Tuesday. It deflated completely in less than 2 minutes. I was on the way back from Les Schwab and noticed AAA was on the scene helping another hapless driver. I noticed yesterday that the patch was actually better than the pothole — usually Fauntleroy “fixes” are just as bad as the problem.

The same evening (4/8) around 8:30, we had the misfortune to be cut off by another car right before the pothole, so I didn’t have a chance to see it and hit it full on. I immediately pulled over to inspect my NEWish tire, and so far, so good, even without run-flats.

OMG…I hit that pothole coming home from work Tuesday night. I was going the speed limit and almost lost control of my car. BAM!!! I hit it with the right front tire, and when I got home I looked at it and thought it was okay. But today, during a scheduled oil change, the mechanic noticed a bulge and told me I needed to replace it because it was dangerous.

Two hours and $61.00 later I got it replaced at Costco. It was a $144. tire, but still under some warrantee.

Not to mention my neck really does hurt now. No kidding…

I can’t believe this town. Two freeking sports stadiums paid with tax dollars but SINKHOLES like that on main arterials.

I notice today its covered by a big steel sheet, so its being “fixed”. I wonder if there is any liability on the part of the city?

Sorry, comment time is over.
