CITY COUNCIL BRIEFING MEETING: The weekly 2 pm meeting for previews and briefings is back after the council’s recess. Today’s meeting includes an overview of the about-to-launch budget process. The agenda explains how to watch.

THE WORKS POP-UP AT THE NEIGHBORHOOD: The Works Seattle continues pop-up crafting with a “charm bar” at The Neighborhood (6503 California SW), 5-7 pm.

CHEWING GUM ‘SECRET SHOW’: As previewed Sunday, the local band is playing a short free live show tonight inside Hiawatha Community Center (2700 California SW) to celebrate the streaming release of their EP. All ages, doors open 6 pm, show 6:15 pm-6:45 pm.

LIVE MUSIC AT SEBASTIANO’S: 6 pm at the wine shop, piano jazz! (3278 California SW)

DIET COKE CRAWL! Love Diet Coke? One of your neighbors is gathering people for a “Diet Coke Crawl“ – to try out six venues on Alki tonight to see which has the best fountain Diet Coke. RSVP here and then gather at 6:30 pm at Christos on Alki (2508 Alki SW).

YOU CAN HELP: Just one hour a week! Be a volunteer tutor with Invest in Youth at two West Seattle schools

With the school year now well under way and tutoring time approaching, Invest in Youth still needs volunteer tutors at two West Seattle schools. Here’s the announcement sent to us to share with you:

Tutoring is about to start for local educational nonprofit Invest in Youth but they’re still short tutors at Roxhill and Sanislo elementary schools. If you’re looking to make a big difference right here in West Seattle, here’s how!

We have students lined up by their teachers as those who they believe will most benefit from our one-on-one tutoring program, but we still need tutors.

-Roxhill Elementary at E.C. Hughes, Tuesdays 2:40 – 3:40 pm
-Sanislo Elementary, Mondays 2:40 – 3:40 pm

Tutoring starts in October and runs through May 2026. If you can commit to one hour a week and you’re interested in connecting with your local community to narrow achievement gaps for neighborhood students, we want to hear from you!

You’ll meet one day a week with the same student in the classroom with other student-tutor pairs, and work on math and reading fundamentals, all while serving as a mentor to foster lifelong academic success.

No experience is necessary; just a commitment to show up for one hour, one day a week.

WEATHER + SUNRISE/SUNSET

The forecast is for some sunshine, high in the upper 60s. Sunrise will be at 6:45 am today; sunset will be at 7:22 pm. (Just eight days until the official start of fall.)

PATH REMINDER

Assuming the work started Saturday as announced, the foot/bike path closure by the West Seattle Bridge is under way for Sound Transit work.

TRANSIT TODAY

Metro buses – Regular weekday schedule today – any reroute/stop advisories will be here; reminder that buses have returned to SW Barton in and near the Westwood Village area.

Washington State Ferries – The Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth route is returning to a three-boat schedule today, with M/V Sealth as the #3 vessel; check the alert page for specifics.

West Seattle Water Taxi – Regular summer schedule, with later-night schedule Fridays and Saturdays (for one more month).
