WATER TAXI: Extra runs tonight for Seahawks game

(Added: WSB photo, Water Taxi boarding just before 4 pm)

If you’re going to the Seahawks‘ playoff game (5 pm at Lumen Field vs. the 49ers), reminder that you can take the West Seattle Water Taxi there and back. The WT website says, “After the game, there will be special post-game sailings from Pier 50 to the Seacrest dock at 8:30 p.m., 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Then you can take the free shuttle from Seacrest to the West Seattle Junction (Route 773) or ride along Alki (Route 775).”

I think it sucks that Metro makes extra accommodations for games, including free rides, when many neighborhoods lack even basic bus service that allows them to carry on with daily living.

Which neighborhoods lack any bus service in Seattle? The economic impact of that game yesterday is probably close to $10M, possibly more based on similar outcomes for similar events in the past in other cities. So, yes, having more rides to the games actually does have a wonderful return on the investment from the city that goes to things like more public transit.

Factchecker. In West Seattle Metro dropped bus service to all of Genesee Hill. They also dropped the #37 which serviced Jacobson Road, Beach Drive, Alki and Harbor Avenues. They also dropped the 55 which started in north Admiral and went to the Junction before heading downtown. Do you know why? NONE of the residents know why. And Metro’s offered NO word on if service will ever return. Why is that?
