WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen silver Sonata

Reported by Shelley:

My husband’s silver 2015 Hyundai Sonata, license # AUX7982, was stolen outside of Arbor Heights tennis courts between 4 and 5:45 today. Someone had tried to steal it a few months ago, and Hyundai supposedly fixed the easy-to-steal problem, but obviously that didn’t work.

Hi Shelley – there is an Instagram page where a group of people are posting cars that appear to be stolen.  I just saw a “story” on the page featuring a silver/gray Hyundai at the 76 station on Roxbury & 30th approximately 2 hours ago.  You may want to let the police know to have them ask for security cam footage in case that was your husband’s vehicle.

My husband saw 3 speeding vehicles go down our street (32nd SW just off of SW 104th). One was a silver Hyundai sedan. It was being driven by a young male with a mask on. It was being followed by a blue sedan and a black SUV. The sedan drivers were wearing masks. He said they were going so fast they barely made the turn down our street. He thought they were racing. Our neighbors called 911, too.

Thanks, Rhonda.  That was definitely them. Interestingly, when thieves attempted to steal this car a few months ago in front of our house, in the middle of the day, they were thwarted by our neighbor.  He said they were in a black SUV and were wearing black ski masks.

So sorry this happened to you! I was walking my dog around 530pm and heard the loud tire screeching noises coming around the bend from SW 97th St. as I kept walking down SW 31st ave, I saw two cars driving SO fast they were losing control of their vehicles, I honestly thought they were going to crash into literally anything around, including myself. Both cars looked like silver Hyundai sonata. There were two people in first car and one in the second, following them. All covering their faces with bandanas. I think they took a left turn onto SW 100th st. However, as someone mentioned, right at 535pm, my camera also caught a black SUV followed by a blue sedan driving up 31st ave SW. Earlier in the day, I also heard the same tire noises driving at high speed further east of 31st Ave SW, sounded like they were fleeing a scene.

I was at the tennis club when the car was stolen.  We saw the individuals before they stole the car.  One was wearing a colorful bright red/orange hoody.  The other was a girl with fairly long brown hair, wearing just a short sleeve white T-Shirt with blue jeans. At the time her face was not covered.  The above messages relate to the same time the theft occurred at the tennis club.
