Driver crashes into Jefferson Square store

Thanks for the tips, and to Erin for the top photo. The front of the AT&T store at Jefferson Square is smashed in – but this was NOT a burglary, it was a crash. The car is still in the store:

No injuries. One witness says it was apparently a case of gas pedal/brake pedal confusion but we were unable to confirm that with police.

Yikes! Were all the regular parking spaces full? Thank goodness no injuries.

Lucky they didn’t kill anyone. Driving a car is a massive responsibility, these errors can be deadly.

holy-moly! If they were parked a few spaces to the right Kids may have been run over in Mathnasium math tutoring! I hope they get their license revoked!

Why didn’t they figure out they hit the gas pedal after they went up onto the sidewalk?? That is more than “I hit the wrong pedal”.

OMG because we can’t all be perfect like you all and maybe it was a medical trauma and or an elderly person…or young, either way we’re not all perfect and it was an accident, not intentional. 🫤

You don’t have to be perfect to avoid driving up a curb and through a wall!

@Susie: I never said it was intentional. If ‘elderly’ or ‘young, as you suggested, is the reason, then their license should be revoked as that is a huge mistake as a driver. A very lucky thing no one was injured. And thanks for calling me perfect!

Mistakes, even serious ones, happen every day to individuals with otherwise perfect records.  Glad you’re not in charge.

@wsres, Did I attach my comment to yours, no. And no again, far from perfect.

If your definition of being a “perfect” driver is someone who doesn’t crash through a buildings, then you might need reconsider what is reasonable. This isn’t a trivial “oops, my bad” situation. This person seriously needs to be evaluated for cognitive competency. I’m not being harsh, I’m saying it for the safety of other drivers, pedestrians, passengers, and the driver themselves.

    Jeez that’s some serious confusion.

Wow, it’s almost like building your cities around cars is like really dangerous or something.

  • Jay June 3, 2023 (6:30 pm)

This happens all the time. A good site designer will add bollards in locations where cars can drive through doors and windows. The cost is worth it, especially if there are people in the business when this happens.

Wow, I was in there today- and now feel lucky to have gotten out. Yikes

Oh boy. Hope it wasn’t a student from the driving school. That would be a rough start.

  • Ferns June 3, 2023 (8:32 pm)

Who accelerates that hard when they believe they are backing out into the street??? Hope I never make that mistake but glad no one was killed.

Startled or panicked: driving becomes secondary to bracing yourself. Unfortunately, many times it is where your foot happens to be. So glad nobody was hurt. This happens enough I consider it as possibly a design problem (that no manufacturer will tackle).  Again, glad everyone walked away.

The fact this has to be explained as not a robbery is very telling of our city.

Accidents happen, scary for the employees of that store. Hope the gals next door at Tulip didn’t experience any damage…

I was there shortly after it happened and took these 2 pictures, the driver most likely was the women with the paperwork in her hand. What I don’t understand how could she from a parked position, on a flat surface jump over the sidewalk bump and slam into all the way back into the store destroyed ?? And cause such damage to the car? basically totaled. It takes a lot more then just a pedal confusion.
