Electric-vehicle drivers invited to help others learn about EVs on Earth Day

On Earth Day – April 22nd – again this year, electric-vehicle drivers have the opportunity to help others learn about plugged-in driving, and people with questions about it have the chance to get answers. This year it’ll all be happening nearby, at the Duwamish River Community Hub on the southeast corner of downtown South Park’s main intersection, 14th Avenue S./S. Cloverdale. Organizers include the Seattle Electric Vehicle Association and Express CU – different EV models and even test drives will be offered, noon-3 pm on Saturday, April 22nd. If you’re an EV driver interested in participating, the link is on this page (as well as the link for RSVPs).

Are e-bike riders invited to show off mobility at 5% the cost of a new car? 😉

We should be deterring car usage not promoting it… sigh

A large portion of WS residents need a personal vehicle as public transit won’t fulfill their transportation needs. In those instances, an EV is clearly a better option than an ICE vehicle when you consider the localized pollution reduction for our community. Let’s not let perfect be the enemy of better, okay?

Electric vehicles have some great stuff going for them when it comes to maintenance, localized air pollution, and even improved economy of scale when electricity is generated with hydrocarbons (as opposed to burning directly in an internal combustion engine).   If I were shopping for a car, it would be my preference.   From a wider perspective though, expending huge amounts of energy for personal transport and the sprawl enabled by that is the real environmental problem.   The idea that EVs will let everyone live exactly the way they have been but without environmental damage just doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.

I attended one of these fairs last year. The EV owners in attendance were great, and gave straightforward answers to all of my questions.

Sorry, comment time is over.
