Two West Seattle parks offering concession spots this summer

Seattle Parks has opened its annual call for vendors interested in concession spots, and two West Seattle parks are on the list: Alki Beach (two spaces) and Lincoln Park (one). Approved vendors will be able to start selling in May. Parks says it’s seeking both food and non-food concessionaires. You can get specifics via the Request For Proposals document on the Parks website; proposals are due March 2nd.

What if Shug’s had summers at Lincoln Park? Heaven, just heaven.

Shug’s has had a storefront at California and Charlestown for probably 5 years that they have not used. I can’t imagine that they’d try to do anything at Lincoln park.

Hi Eleanor,Thanks for keeping tabs on our business!  We actually would love to be considered for Alki and/or Lincoln Park. We have really cool ice cream carts that I think would be very successful there. Hope you can check us out soon in West Seattle!Colleen Wilkie, Shug’s Owner

We have been selling shaved ice at Coleman pool in Lincoln park for three years now. Our program gives neurodiverse adults opportunities to learn job skills and gives a lot of them their first jobs. If anyone is interested in working with us over the summer check us out at http://www.enigma-asd.org and you can contact me directly via email. Colleen if we get the contract again I would love to partner with you and sell your icecream. We are trying to expand this program to other parks and would love to work with you. Also, the city is great to work with. They prioritize minority groups and companies that will make bigger social impact rather than large corporate entities focused only on profit. It’s a small but needed leg up for some of these businesses in struggling communities and I applaud them for doing it. Of course I may be biased.

Why de we allow vendors at Alki when the businesses along the beach can’t seem to stay open?  It doesn’t seem fair to the brick and mortar businesses paying rents and taxes.

That concessionaires pay money into the city as well is just one of the problems with your weird argument.

      • j January 16, 2023 (12:25 pm)

The vendor fees are inconsequential compared to build-out and leasing a ‘brick and mortar’ venue.

        • heartless January 16, 2023 (2:03 pm)

Gosh, it’s almost like what you get depends on what you spend?

Besides, beyond the money, it’s ridiculous to complain that a part-time hotdog vendor is the reason a restaurant can’t survive.

I’m sorry, but if your brick and mortar establishment is put out of business by a taco stand you should probably look inwards rather than blame the city.

Businesses like Cactus, Dukes, Spuds, Sunfish, Harrys Beach House, and Christos have been doing just fine for years and years and years and some even decades.Pegasus was run by a snake and his snakeyness finally caught up to him.Top Pot was making money down there but the building owner wanted to build fancy condos above them and wanted them out during construction.  The former Alki bakery spot has had questionable quality in the various forms it has taken since they left.  The Gyro, Juice, and Pho spot seem to be doing well. There are plenty of stable businesses down there that do well especially given the added difficulty of it having severe swings due to seasonal use.  The businesses that dont make it are just not that good or move to somewhere like the Junction where there is less seasonal swing. It makes perfect sense to have seasonal vendors down there. To DRW below: Colman Pool was a gift to the youth of the city, the last thing it needs is a bunch of drunks taking up space there.  The lifeguards are stressed out enough with a bunch of rowdy sober people and dont get paid enough to deal with rowdy drunk people.  But mostly kids and athletes deserve a place that is aimed at their needs.
