SEEN OFF WEST SEATTLE: USS Nimitz, on its way home

Thanks for the tips and photo! Seven weeks after it headed out for training, the Bremerton-based aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) returned home this evening, visible from West Seattle before it turned into Rich Passage.

Vicky, you haven’t an idea . We worked port and starboard. Cramped living compartment, every one smelling of JP5, food was ok though. Every night you prayed to last through the night. Extreme safety WAS IMPERATIVE, exhaust ,props, arresting wire , intakes scared the men enough to make us wary of how dangerous flight deck operations really were.

USSKittyhawk CVA63 my boat to be scrapped and not memorialized She would have been a great museum from her island and pad eyes to her Soviet dented keel.We will miss her Semper Fortis.
