FYI from SPD: Level 3 sex offender moves into Admiral area

From Southwest Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator Jennifer Danner, another one of the occasional notifications that a Level 3 sex offender has moved into the area:

In an effort to keep you informed, and in our constant attempts to reduce future victimization, we want to let you know about one level 3 registered sex offender that has recently moved into a Southwest Precinct neighborhood.

Peter Schulte, a 69-year-old white male, is a level 3 registered sex offender who has recently moved to the 2700 block of California Ave SW in Seattle and is no longer under Department of Corrections supervision.

Detective Spong from the Seattle Police Department’s Sex Offender Detail is responsible for checking on this offender and verifying his address as long as he is residing there.

To learn more about this offender and to see his photo, please visit the King County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender website and search by their name. [Editor’s note: Here’s a direct link to the page with his photo.] You will also find personal safety tips and resources on this site.

If you have further questions about this offender, contact Michelle McRae of the Seattle Police Sex Offender Detail at 206-684-5581 or e-mail at michelle.mcrae@seattle.gov.

Level 3 sex offenders pose the highest risk to re-offend. It is normal to feel upset, angry and worried about a registered sex offender living in your community. The Community Notification Act of 1990 requires sex offenders to register in the community where they live. The law also allows local law enforcement to make the public aware about Level 2 and Level 3 offenders. Since these offenders have completed their sentences, they are free to live where they wish. Experts believe sex offenders are less likely to re-offend if they live and work in an environment free of harassment. Any actions taken against the listed sex offenders could result in arrest and prosecution as it is against the law to use this information in any way to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders. The SPD Sex offender detectives will check on these offenders every 3 months to verify our information.

The single most effective means of protecting your child is communication with your child. They have to feel comfortable discussing sensitive matters with you. Teach your children that they should not be asked to touch anyone in the bathing suit areas of their body or allow anyone to touch them in those areas. Teach them types of situations to avoid. It is not good enough to tell a child to avoid strangers. Please remember that children are most often molested by someone they or their parents know.

He moved across the street from the park and the High School.  :(

Dude, this guy is right next to the elementary school.

      • Hw July 12, 2018 (8:14 pm)

Aren’t there rules about proximity to schools for certain levels?

        • WSB July 12, 2018 (9:04 pm)

Not if the person is no longer under DOC supervision (see link above).

  • jissy July 12, 2018 (6:56 pm)

N: And on the next block from Lafayette.

  • Seattlite July 12, 2018 (7:23 pm)

Did he choose his new residence next to schools or was he placed there by some agency? I’m just wondering how a level 3 sex offender would be allowed to live near schools.

  • JesseD July 12, 2018 (7:27 pm)

It doesn’t matter where they live, kids are everywhere. Don’t be scared, but please be vigilant. We have several of these creeps in White Center. One love.

  • Beckyjo July 12, 2018 (7:28 pm)

Why was he allowed to move in near any school?

  • HW July 12, 2018 (8:16 pm)

WSB – thanks again for providing a valuable public service.

I don’t usually buy into the nimby hysteria but this one bugs me.  He was convicted of child molestation.  And is next to two  schools and a very popular park.  I find this disturbing.however instead of grabbing the metaphorical pitchfork and torches, I will use this as a reminder to go over safety with my because the reality is that registered sex offenders are only the ones who have been caught.

  • Forest July 12, 2018 (8:38 pm)

So, an unsupervised Level-3 convicted child molester has been OKed to move directly across the street from a partially wooded 10-acre public park with children’s play equipment, a wading pool for toddlers, and community center housing a preschool child care program? What could possibly go wrong? This is horrifying news.

I have one living 2 doors down from me and it has bothered me for years. Though my neighbor is not a level 3, this guy is much worse. I appreciate having this information. Let’s all be on the lookout.

That mythical “someplace that isn’t near any school, daycare, playground, park, library, shopping mall, toy store, or MY house” doesn’t exist. He has to live where he can find someone willing to rent to him. Or in an unsanctioned camp, I suppose. But I’m pretty sure I know how y’all feel about that.

    • S July 13, 2018 (7:42 am)

“Not within one block of two schools and a park” does exist though.

    • sbre July 13, 2018 (9:29 am)

Unfortunately the City of Seattle no longer allows us to perform a criminal background check on anyone who submits an application for a vacant rental property, instead we have to trust the person will disclose their status with us.
Who is this law designed to protect?
Certainly not those who are the targets of these warped & sick individuals!!

      • Concerned July 14, 2018 (5:37 am)

I also wonder how this guy is able to pay for rent in the admiral district. I’d assume the rent is high there. Unless he’s living with a relative or friend (though who would want to be friends with someone who molests kids) I can’t imagine him having a good enough job to pay the rent there

  • NW Mama July 12, 2018 (10:52 pm)

Is posting signs with his picture against the law?  He has chosen a place to live that is highly suspicious and he should be shamed away from putting himself in these areas.

Well that’s unfortunate. Wouldn’t stop certain concerned citizens tho

        • moral July 26, 2018 (8:25 pm)

          What, precisely, is unfortunate?

  • Marianne July 12, 2018 (11:03 pm)

Many of your concerns can be answered by reading the actual notification in blue (thank you WSB).

  • MS July 13, 2018 (8:07 am)

Yes, this is very scary and concerning; the best thing we can do for our kids is educate them so they know how to protect themselves and avoid danger as much as possible.

  • Steve July 13, 2018 (10:04 am)

You’ve got to be kidding me… Across the street from the elementary school and Hiawatha play field.

  • T Rex July 13, 2018 (2:29 pm)

As soon as they start  putting them away for LIFE, problem is solved by those who get caught. But just think about the ones that don’t. America’s dirty little no so secret. I have never understood people who think these rat bas*ards EVER GET BETTER. They do not. Period. People can accuse me of the pitchfork attitude all they want, these men are a threat to children no matter where they live. If I had children in that area, they would NEVER be outside without an adult. Sometimes the garbage needs to be taken out, just saying.

  • Peter Schulte July 27, 2018 (9:19 am)

Wow, this is so embarrassing. You guys don’t have to worry. I’ve been happily married for over ten years and no way would I bring the pain of those mistakes into my family or anyone’s family again. I have a good job and a good life. FYI — I completed the program at Twin Rivers and was released as a level 2. It was a DOC “therapist” with whom I did not get along, who got me reclassified.I can understand your concerns of course, but they aren’t warranted in my case.–Peter Schulte

  • AdmiralGirl July 30, 2018 (5:56 pm)

Really?? Then why be so provocative by moving across the street from a community park an a block away from 2 schools??  You’re already blaming other people for your predicament per your post above (DOC “therapist” made you level 3, not you, etc). You made a very odd choice by moving to that location so I don’t know why you’d be surprised that parents are alarmed  over this. Don’t expect anyone to be putting out the welcome mat for you here.

Sorry, comment time is over.
