UPDATE: Water break in Luna Park area

img_7686

9:22 PM: Though it’s a rainless night, water is rushing downhill in the Luna Park area under the West Seattle Bridge. We checked it out after a tip from Stephanie. A Seattle Public Utilities worker was checking it out along 30th SW, uphill and west of Avalon Way; he told us an SPU crew would be on the way over after fixing an unrelated break downtown. We have a message out to SPU to find out more, including whether anyone is without water service because of the break.

10:37 PM: Haven’t heard back from SPU, so we might not get any followup info until tomorrow.

1:52 AM: Thanks to commenter SEW for an update – not fixed yet.

Yeah, just noticed that while checking traffic cams, so my line about rainless night is obsolete. It was at the time, though.

SPU worker on site around 11:30 pm said  there’s a delay in fixing due to a water main break down town.  They have now turned the water to low flow overnight and will turn water OFF sometime in the early AM.  He guesstimated that repairs may be finished by 10 or 11 AM tomorrow.  I’m not exactly sure how much of the area immediately around Luna Park  will be without water. Got a quick glance at a map on their computer screen but not enough to be sure

Thank you for the update, since we’ve been unable to get official info via the usual means (paging on-call media person)!

SPU is working to identify where leak originates from. A worker said they will then try to make repairs with water on low flow and will hopefully avoid having to shut  water completely off.

Sorry, comment time is over.
