10:30 PM: A medical response is arriving at a reported collision between a driver and a scooter rider at 63rd and Beach Drive. We’re on the way to find out more.

10:33 PM: The first SFD units on scene now say there’s no other vehicle involved – just the scooter.

10:46 PM: Just arrived in the area. As noted in comments, 63rd/Beach Drive is blocked by police. Seattle Fire Engines 29 and 32 are leaving.

10:51 PM: Police tell us the injured rider is a 51-year-old woman who hit either a pothole or a bump that caused her to lose control and take a spill. Medic 32 is taking her to Harborview. The scooter’s been moved out of the intersection, which police expect to reopen shortly.

Thanks. We’ve been en route for about 10 minutes, just arrived.

Seattle Public Utilities worked about a month ago near this site and there is a good size depression where the work was completed which is equivalent to a lane-size pothole.  The City of Seattle should be responsible for this woman’s medical bills.

Steve: I was going to post the same comment. I live 2 houses away and saw the flashing lights. Now reading this, I expect it was that badly repaved huge hole in the middle of the street 100 feet north of 63rd and Beach Drive

      Hope she’s ok!

Has anyone called this hole in to the Pothole line? Or 206-684-ROAD? Regardless of whether it factored into this spill, it should obviously be fixed and that’s the hotline for road hazards. By the time we got there last night, the scooter was up on the curb so we didn’t see exactly where the rider had fallen.

I really hope she mends quickly. The roads around there are third world at best.

@smokeycretin9 You’re absolutely right. It’s absolutely dangerous to ride anything with two wheels through there. I can understand the reasoning it’s not taken care of (built-in speed bumps without building anything), but there’s a point when safety is more than just how fast someone is going.

This was my mother who was hurt. Just an update. She’s doing better. But yes that pot hole should be fixed these roads are not the greatest weather be car or scooter. She’s on a long road to recovery. We are very greatfull she only sustained limited injuries. Still painful but will recover.

    Why don’t the
authorities simply mend that particular portion?

Sorry, comment time is over.
