West Seattle biznotes: Illusions’ 35th; Sherwin-Williams opens; WS Runner event Wednesday

ILLUSIONS’ 35TH ANNIVERSARY TOMORROW: Tuesday is a big day at Illusions Hair Design (WSB sponsor) – the culmination of Illusions’ celebration of 35 years in business! You are invited to stop by any time between 10 am and 6 pm; one hallmark of the celebration is a raffle raising money for a charity that’s near and dear to the hearts of Illusions’ Sue Lindblom and her team – Pencil Me In For Kids. Illusions is at 5619 California SW.

Now to a brand-new business:

SHERWIN-WILLIAMS STORE NOW OPEN: The paint store built behind the Delridge/Orchard ARCO station is now open for business. Corporate PR hadn’t answered our recent inquiries about when the store would open, but we noticed the big NOW OPEN sign in the window last night and went back today to verify. You can find their hours and other info on the corporate website.

CELEBRATE NATIONAL RUNNING DAY WITH WS RUNNER: Lori McConnell from West Seattle Runner (WSB sponsor) sends word that Wednesday is National Running Day, and that coincides with this event on the WSR calendar:

We have an Asics-sponsored Pub Run that night at 6:30 pm. We will meet at the store; folks can try out Asics shoes for the run, and we end at Spiro’s Pizza for a carb reload in the form of beer and pizza … or anything else on the menu. The run will be 3 miles. All paces are welcome. There are raffle prizes as well from Asics.

WS Runner is on the northwest corner of California/Charlestown, second floor.

I am very impressed with how they managed to construct that building on that property. However, to me it seems a bit redundant with the Home Depot across the street.

Would love to see Delridge get another business that will benefit the community, say, a grocery store (and not another convenience store).

WSH, I never verified this since corporate PR at Sherwin-Williams was unresponsive, but someone commented in the course of our earlier coverage that apparently Sherwin-Williams finds synergy in putting locations near Home Depots. – TR

Sherwin will do well there, its the only legit paint store in west seattle. Hardware stores that also sell paint are ok, but this is a long time coming for ws. I doubt they care there’s a hd next door, they know there own numbers.

So disappointed that a paint store was built there. I completely agree with WSH that we need businesses that would benefit the community in that area. Shoot, even a drive-thru Sbux would be more beneficial than a paint store next door to….a place where I can buy more paint. Makes no sense.

Delridge doesn’t need a grocery store, or any kind of reasonable business that would serve the population that lives near it. You know something like a credit union, or a laundromat. Maybe a basic little bakery. Who needs any of that nonsense. What It needs is more pot-shops, low income housing and more projects like the DESC thing. Oh, and if someone would reopen that used good store and combine it with yet another convenience store that was big enough to be licensed to also sell hard alcohol and pot all our needs would truly be met. After all, it is Delridge.

S.W. used an odd piece of unused, seldom maintained property and built a nice looking building there.
    Very nice!

We already bought a bunch of paint and supplies there. The man helping us couldn’t have been nicer. Happy to have a real, quality paint store in WS… it’s helping at least two members of your community already.

Sorry, comment time is over.
