Update: 2 to hospital, 1 arrested after crash in South Delridge

(SUNDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE here)

ORIGINAL REPORT, 2:36 AM: Big emergency response right now at 17th and Cambridge. Two vehicles involved. More to come.

3:09 AM UPDATE: This was a T-bone crash, with both vehicles ending up on the sidewalk – two people had to be extricated, described as the male driver of the Honda and female driver of the van; both were taken to Harborview Medical Center. The extrication is what made it an “automobile rescue” call, if you watch the online 911 log. Via Twitter, SPD says the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad is responding, as it does to major crash scenes, which means the scene will likely be closed off for a few hours.

9:09 AM UPDATE: Updated information from SPD BLotter:

Two people were injured in an early morning collision. This morning just shortly after 2:00 a.m., an adult female was driving a full sized van N/B on 17th AV SW, and drove through the stop sign at SW Cambridge ST without stopping.

The van hit a small car travelling W/B with 2 occupants, pushing it completely through the intersection, and up the sidewalk into a fence, and crushing the driver’s side halfway into the passenger side of the car.

Both occupants of the car sustained critical injuries. Seattle Fire responded and treated them on scene. Both were transported to an area hospital.   The 4 occupants of the suspect van got out and ran westbound across Delridge Way, where responding officers caught them.

The female suspect/ driver was processed and booked into King County Jail for DUI – Vehicular Assault.

MONDAY NOTE: Again, please see our updated story from Sunday, with Monday additions, for the newest information.

Was wondering what that was. Y’all got on that fast.

  • Mel June 23, 2013 (2:42 am)

Thank for the fast info. Sorry for the late text :)

    • WSB June 23, 2013 (3:09 am)

NEVER be sorry – sometimes our usual alert channels aren’t triggered and the text(s) are how we find out! We have alerts set up for various kinds of SFD calls, for example, but in this case, it started as simply a motor-vehicle accident and then became a rescue call, so the alert didn’t trigger. Thank you so much! Adding more now…

  • Mel June 23, 2013 (2:53 am)

Tons of flashing lights still (police, ambulances, fire trucks??) hoPe everyone is ok?

  • Mel June 23, 2013 (3:21 am)

Oh no :( hope everyone will be ok. Thanks again fOr the fast response .

  • m June 23, 2013 (8:06 am)

Was woken up by the sirens and knew it was very close and most likely serious given the many extended sirens. It’s a risky intersection there. Also knew WSB would have the information about it. Sending healing energy to the drivers and hope for updates re: their recovery.

  • jiggers June 23, 2013 (9:00 am)

    Drunk?

  • Jehu June 23, 2013 (9:52 am)

The 4 occupants of the van are in an accident that critically injure 2 people and they run? What scum. Were they charged with anything?

  • McGruff June 23, 2013 (1:22 pm)

Looks like the van driver will be charged with DUI & Vehicular Assault, according to the article above. I do hope they throw the book at her. This sort of nonsense will only be curbed when the punishment becomes too much to bear.

Too bad prisons are as relatively cushy as they are now. 20 years hard labor, or if we ‘outsourced’ prisoner to Mexican prisons, for example, might really make folks think twice.

  • ~~Hockeywitch~~ June 23, 2013 (3:38 pm)

Was awake at that hour as the Pizza Hut next door thought it would be a good time to have their oven vents Pressure washed last night…. Saw Ladder 11 and a Bat Chief heading over there… Hope the injured parties recover quickly.

  • Skylark June 23, 2013 (5:04 pm)

Just got word that the driver of the Honda in last night’s crash is Skylark’s cook/bartender Logan. We will be closing immediately after the matinee today, please send thoughts/prayers to Logan and his family.

  • dawne June 23, 2013 (6:33 pm)

Thoughts & prayers towards the occupants of car HIT by drunk driver. Really don’t have anything to say about all the scum driver\occupants of van. Not about to wish them well, sorry.

  • comment June 23, 2013 (7:53 pm)

I hope the van occupants rot in hell or jail, especially the driver. Irresponsible cowards.

  • Jay June 23, 2013 (8:24 pm)

So sad and so wrong. I hope all ends well here. And by that I mean that both of the victims fully recover and that every person in that van gets what they deserve for their moral turpitude, in some way, some how, some day…

  • loi June 23, 2013 (10:19 pm)

this story is so false! dont say anything until you know everything! Even the media can lie up the a**!!

    • WSB June 23, 2013 (10:22 pm)

Well, let’s see. The two vehicles crashed. Two people went to the hospital. One person was arrested. We had the basics from the scene last night; police added their report (the part published here in blue background) this morning. What part is false?

  • miws June 23, 2013 (11:59 pm)

    Yes, loi, please enlighten us!

    .

I trust we’ll see you back here soon with all of the facts to back up your claim?

    .

Please don’t forget to include links to the sources you cite!

  • Right June 24, 2013 (2:32 am)

Really, Loi? Facts are facts and what happened, happened. Obviosly Loi knows the guilty party or was involved in the incident. Someone should investigate and question them.

  • Cait June 24, 2013 (8:46 am)

Sounds like Loi might know something… Gotta friend who drives a van?

  • loi June 24, 2013 (9:36 am)

ALL THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN SETTLED THATS WHY I SAID THE MEDIA IS A LIE! WSB DNT KNOW ANYTHING! ITS REALLY NONE OF YOU GUYS BUSINESS ANYWAYS… NOSEY PPL… ND THATS ALL IM SAYING! PLEASE IF YOUR NAME HASNT BEEN CALLD DURING THIS THAN STAY OUT OF IT ITS BEST FOR EVERYBODY!!! DNT JUDGE ONLY GOD CAN DO THT!!!

    • WSB June 24, 2013 (9:54 am)

Still not clear how we can be lying by (a) reporting what we saw and found out at the scene and (b) reporting what the police said. As for “none of you guys’ business,” yes, any crash on a public street – even if no one is hurt, let alone one that has sent two people to the hospital, fighting for their lives, and put someone else in jail – IS *everyone’s* business. If you believe you have evidence contrary to what police have reported so far, please be sure to contact them to make sure they know about it. If they correct their report, I’ll be happy to update. Meantime, I’m following up today with the hospital and prosecutors. – Tracy

  • miws June 24, 2013 (10:44 am)

loi, How can this be “settled” for the two innocent people critically injured? Plus, are you going to tell these victims, their family and friends that it’s none of their business?

    .

What about the property owner that now has a damaged fence?

    .

What if the van had gone further into the yard and damaged the house, and forbid, injured occupants of the house?

    .

Word of advice: if you follow through on WSB’s suggestion of contacting the police with the info you have, take a few deep breaths, calm down, and refrain from SHOUTING when you contact them. It will give your side of the story more credibility.

    .

    Mike

  • comment June 24, 2013 (11:32 am)

    Loi, you’re drunk, go home.
I am unable to decipher the meaning of your rambling, but I think it is quite obvious that you were either in the van or related to someone in the van. I’m gonna guess you’re a parent of one of the scumbags who fled the scene and left my best friend to die. Great job teaching them strong morals and a sense of responsibility. Maybe they can return the favor by teaching you some proper grammar.

  • Chris June 24, 2013 (12:26 pm)

Yes Loi, please expalin to me how its settled when I have to see my BEST FRIEND in the ICU, with staples in his head, and on life support? All because some drunk ran a stop sign and almost killed TWO people.

  • Christina June 24, 2013 (1:08 pm)

I tried looking at the King County Jail Register over the weekend and didn’t get a name and time that match or at least closely correspond with the INV DUI/VEHICULAR ASSAULT in time. I tried looking at the Municipal Court calendar too but the DI cases were filed weeks ago. Does anyone have a #BA number from the King County Jail Register, or a Seattle Municipal Court File # so I can look this up?

There was a very sad and high profile DUI incident a few months earlier that took the lives of two grandparents who were in town visiting their newborn grandchild. It disgusts me that people will still blow through stoplights and DUI accidents/arrests still happen.

Thank you for following up, Tracy. I wish a full recovery to the poor people who were just trying to get home safely from work.

    • WSB June 24, 2013 (1:14 pm)

Christina – I actually have spent some time today working on that, because I started looking at the KCJ register as soon as it came back online yesterday, couldn’t find anyone resembling a match, and then the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office told me this morning that the suspect did not appear to be on today’s first-appearance calendar, which was even stranger. So I checked back with SPD media relations, which tells me that the suspect was booked as Jane Doe “because she didn’t have ID.” (Maybe commenter “Loi” can help police with that?) And now I’m circling back around with KCPAO. – TR

  • Christina June 24, 2013 (1:28 pm)

Thanks, Tracy/WSB. Your reply and investigation attempts are actually helpful as the one ID’d DUI for early that morning was processed too early and there was no vehicular assault charge attached. None of the Jane Does matches the date either.

I’m curious to see if any follow-up charges emerge when more details are divulged.

    Excellent work.

  • Chelsea June 24, 2013 (5:46 pm)

Loi–the caps lock button. Hit it once.

  • Right June 24, 2013 (7:34 pm)

It is very clear that “Loi” has a mental problem, or they’re just an internet troll. No need to give that waste of internet space any more attention. Lets all just send positive thoughts to the 2 victims. If we’re gonna vent, let’s vent about the pathetic lady and her 3 friends who all cowardly ran from the scene, which shows not only cowardice, but guilt, shame, and how pathedic humans can still be in 2013. Leaving other people to die when it was YOUR fault. How ’bout helping eachother!? Especially if YOU were involved in hurting them. Sick.

  • loi June 25, 2013 (4:07 am)

im not sayin shes innocent im simply saying IF YOU DONT HAVE ALL YOUR FACTS THAN DNT SAY NOTHING! im not saying shes innocent either god knows that! when ifirst found out ifirst askd about the VICTIMS! nd if WSB wld look further into the investigation shes not being charged with no DUI! nd for the last time she did not run!!! yu can say all yu want about this incident but me nd mines have spoken to spd nd they told us something different… so if im lyin than so is spd! inever said it wasnt the victims family business! im talkin bout all you other irrelevant ppl! nd DO NOT tell me that im drunk! idnt have a mental problem either “RIGHT” but all this trashv talkin

    • WSB June 25, 2013 (8:01 am)

Loi, I actually spent a whole lot of time Monday trying to get more information. It’s in the newer story, linked above. I still don’t have a name. No one on the jail register for vehicular assault. (I have read through it three times, which isn’t easy, it’s not just a list, it requires combing through by alphabet; I will be looking again this morning.) I contacted the prosecuting attorney’s office – suspects almost always have bail hearings the first weekday after an arrest. There was no one on the docket for vehicular assault. I contacted SPD media, which published the account you see above, and they explained that the driver was booked as Jane Doe because she did not have ID and would not provide her name. They then said they’ll use fingerprints to find out her ID. So today I start the cycle again with prosecutors. Until I find out her name and what if any charges are filed – the deadline would likely be today or tomorrow – I have no information beyond what police have published here, and again, if it’s inaccurate, I urge you or anyone else who has any such information to contact police and ask that they correct this. Otherwise, for us and other media organizations that published the SPD Blotter info, this is the official public record – TR

  • Meesha June 25, 2013 (4:34 am)

Thank you everyone for the update. Hoping for a speedy recovery to the other driver. You didn’t deserve this. But for the woman driving the van. Karma is a bitch!!!!

  • calmdownsea June 25, 2013 (10:45 pm)

It looks like a lot of the stories seem to be either rumors or false information. The woman who caused the accident has been at the hospital with police guarding her room so she can’t leave- That is why the king county jail roster does not list her name yet.

I hope she rots in jail once she gets there. This was a terrible crime and she deserves the time she has coming for her. I think all the people in the car deserve heavy jail time- You don’t leave someone there to die. shame on you all and hope you all enjoy the Karma that comes your way.

    • WSB June 25, 2013 (10:51 pm)

As I wrote in today’s followup, she is on the roster now. She was not, because she was a Jane Doe, and, they did say today, she was in the hospital briefly.

@ loi…when i’m awakened by many sirens down my street @ 2:30am and i know that something serious happened, it IS my business. when i hear that 2 innocent people may be fighting for their lives in my community, then it IS my business. when i hear the anguish in the posts of people who know and love those 2 victims, then it IS my business. when the life of someone in my community is aligned with just the right set of circumstances to blow through a stop sign and crash into someone else’s car, then it IS my business. we all live among each other, we all have a much deeper connection that goes well beyond personally knowing anyone involved. the behavior of one, whether light or dark, creates a ripple that affects us all.

  • Dani June 26, 2013 (4:45 am)

One of my best friends was the victim of this drunk driver. So tell me, why and how am I supposed to feel sympathy for the intoxicated driver of that van who WILLINGLY drove that vehicle after having drank alcohol? The driver chose to drive drunk, my friend did not choose to be sent to the hospital because of that selfish, irresponsible idiot’s actions.
