West Seattle ice cream: New in Delridge and The Junction

With the official start of summer only 3 weeks away, 2 ice-cream notes:

FULL TILT ON DELRIDGE: Martin’s Way at Delridge and Findlay is now carrying Full Tilt Ice Cream, per a tweet this afternoon. We first told you a week ago about the Martin’s Way produce partnership with Tony’s Market, and now the store has expanded its offerings – which also include spices and grains/legumes – by stocking ice cream, too.

CUPCAKE ROYALE ADDS ICE CREAM: Per a news release this afternoon, CR is adding 14 flavors of ice cream to its product line soon – no cones/scoops in West Seattle, but they plan to have pre-packed pints as well as ice-cream sandwiches. (This announcement reminds us of the trivia point that Cupcake Royale’s Junction location at California/Alaska is a former ice-cream parlor, with Ben and Jerry’s there for a while in the ’00s.)

Is cupcake royal adding Molly moons? That’s what the downtown pike place location did!

    • WSB May 29, 2012 (4:34 pm)

Don’t know who’s making the ice cream – it’s going to be branded Cupcake Royale, per their news release – but I’m asking.

  • Gary May 29, 2012 (4:41 pm)

Sorry Cupcake Royale, I only buy my ice cream from one place in the junction..Husky Deli! (same reason why I couldn’t bring myself to go into Ben and Jerry’s). There must be loyalties in this world.
Although I do love your cupcakes (to which I am also loyal).

Answer, from Cupcake Royale spokesperson Laura Glass: “We are making all of our Ice Cream in house homemade using as many local ingredients as possible.”

Sweet! We will definitely try to stop in at Martin’s Way this week!

Speaking of, I thought I saw a Molly Moons truck in front of Beverage Place yesterday. Was that a fluke, advertising, or actual selling?

    • WSB May 29, 2012 (8:49 pm)

Coffee, we actually wrote about that on Facebook – I can’t go get the link but basically: They were catering an event the night before and the truck broke down. We saw it parked in front of BPP on Monday morning and went snooping around and finally had to get the answer via Twitter. – TR

I remember when Ben & Jerry’s went head to head with Huskys. It certainly is no coincidence that Huskys came out on top.

CR is over priced. Almost 3 dollars for a tiny 8oz cup of coffee what arm and a neck will you pay for a scoop. I will hold off with my other observations of these yuppie catering murkkkk.

Husky Deli rocks! Give it up CR. Stick to the free Wi-Fi.

  • cj May 29, 2012 (9:28 pm)

If I were going to buy ice cream in the Junction it would be Husky sorry, but some people like ice cream and cake together so who knows. I don’t like their cupcakes, cool toppings and very bland cake. Hopefully their ice cream wont be the same. I really don’t care how cool a place looks if the food is bleh.

  • John May 29, 2012 (9:36 pm)

I wouldn’t buy any ice cream that isn’t from Full Tilt. They are the best!

  • Give A Hoot May 29, 2012 (9:50 pm)

So.. Cupcake royale is going to be consistently out of ice cream as well. Interesting business model.

All in an effort to survive I suppose. The downtown location was primarily The Chocolate Box and then the wine bar came in and now it’s scootching over for Cupcake Royale. Progress???

“Cupcake Royale Boots Molly Moon From Downtown”

“It’s dog eat dog in treat land. Seattle Magazine reports that Cupcake Royale will begin making its own line of ice cream and will take over (part of) The Chocolate Box in Downtown(where Molly Moon’s has been selling its ice cream since last July) for its newest location. Cupcake Royale’s owner Jody Hall confirmed to Eater that beginning July 2012, Cupcake Royale will begin hawking Cupcakes ‘N’ Cream and other “bakeshop inspired flavors” at the new downtown location and all other locations.
We asked whether Cupcake Royale will use an ice cream base, and Hall replied:
With the volume of ice cream we will make, WA dept of AG says that we need to use a base that is pasteurized. We are not using the same base company as Molly. We are working with a dairy that uses local cows that are growth hormone free and customizing a base that’s not too sweet from added sugar, and super creamy with naturally sweet cream. The base has clean ingredients as well, something super important to us!
Meanwhile, Seattle Met says that having been ousted from its downtown location, Molly Moon’s is planning a partnership with Cupcake Royale’s arch-rival, Trophy Cupcakes.”

    • WSB May 29, 2012 (11:37 pm)

Wonder what happened to Molly Moon and Trophy in the almost-2-months since that story was published … while a cached Google snippet shows MM mentioned on Trophy’s site, I can’t find any allusion there now. Hmm. The plot, or maybe the batter, thickens … Also note that the time frame moved up (which is unusual) with a June launch per today’s announcement, not July.

  • jeff May 30, 2012 (11:16 am)

A little birdie tells me the WS location won’t yet have the ice cream on June 1, that they’re not even getting the freezer until next week. We will all just have to wait with bated breath.

    • WSB May 30, 2012 (12:02 pm)

Jeff – the PR person has contacted me to say that. The way the news release was written, everything was launching June 1st, but Laura says it’ll be closer to July 1st, so don’t everybody stampede this Friday. Thanks for the insight about the freezer. – TR

I love Husky too, but it ain’t exactly high quality ingredients. HFCS and other yuck. Wish they’d use plain sugar, milk, fruit, etc. and skip the fillers, corn syrup, preservatives, etc. We still love to go to Husky’s for ice cream in the Junction, but I *do* think twice about doing it often.

  • allergyFamily May 30, 2012 (8:53 pm)

I hope they will be selling some of the vegan flavors at Martin’s Way. We need the dairy and egg free types. We LOVE Full Tilt!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
