West Seattle scene: iPhone 4S mania in Morgan Junction

Thanks to WSB contributor Keri DeTore for the tip about the line outside the AT&T store at California/Fauntleroy. It’s for the iPhone 4S, which went on sale today.

Do they have anymore? I want two 64gb ones and guessing most people want cheaper ones.

Tiff, we weren’t able to go in, we were rushing between the sunken vessel/oil slick and Westwood Village business break-in stories, oh, plus late word that both U.S. senators were coming to West Seattle to announce job-training $. Maybe somebody who’s gotten theirs will enlighten us. I am awaiting upgrade eligibility in December to say goodbye to the trusty 3GS… TR

I was there at 11:00. they had 11 of the 16gb left, nothing else.

When I walked by at 7:30 this morning there were only three people camped out.

  • tiff October 14, 2011 (1:09 pm)

thanks Bill! I wont waste my time trying to get one then.

  • Kermit October 14, 2011 (1:17 pm)

As an iPhone user allready on AT&T, I have to wonder why. Why are people camped out in front of an AT&T? Get thee to a verizon or sprint post haste!

  • Alki Area October 14, 2011 (1:55 pm)

Seriously? 20 people in line is “mania”?

  • jeunglady October 14, 2011 (2:29 pm)

I wonder if there was a similar kind of response at the Sprint stores (this is first time for Sprint to carry the iphone).

All these people in a state of consumer hypnosis can’t be bothered to pick up the trash surrounding them?

  • Cowpie October 14, 2011 (3:06 pm)

I just don’t get it? I must be out of the loop when it comes to being cool today. I have no cell phone and only this work computer. I pick up my home phone, dial some numbers, and talk to my friends. Simply as that.

  • JunctionMonkey October 14, 2011 (3:34 pm)

    Baaaaa, Baaaaa.

  • Vanessa October 14, 2011 (3:39 pm)

Can’t you buy on line? I got a really good deal on line with last years model at half the price. Baa baa, that’s funny. But I do love my iphone, AtnT, not so much. Bleet.

cowpie- I thought we were the only ones left that didn’t have a smartphone! (we do have a cell phone but it doesn’t even have a camera, much less a browser).

we enjoy keeping up with friends in person too .. and…gas station attendants and friendly pedestrians still give directions..

Oh, how horrible these people want to buy phones that allow them to video call their family, take photos, and play games. And to think they weren’t raking up the leaves around them while waiting. They really should consider others. Like the poor employees who have jobs because of their elitist consumerism. Dreadful.

My POV is I need a cell for work, not overly much, but it is critical to have it available. My old cell was 2003 and dying. I have an old ipod, and an old cell. Now, I have a new phone to replace them all. I look at it as if I can learn a new trick, then I must not be an old dog. Of course, I ordered it on-line too.

the fact that people line up for phones instead of occupying Seattle shows partly why this country is owned by corporations and always will be. Come on its a phone. Makes me sick!

  • Joe October 14, 2011 (9:49 pm)

Josh, it ingenuity and capitolism that makes this nation as great as it is. where else would you rather be? Or better yet, why haven’t you left yet?

  • MP October 14, 2011 (9:49 pm)

Wow, how judgmental of you all…..WTF?? Steve Jobs vision and brilliance has brought so many jobs to the US…. If it weren’t for corporations, like Apple, many, many more people would be unemployed and uninsured… Think about that!!!

  • Scott October 15, 2011 (12:09 am)

    Buncha whining…

  • john October 15, 2011 (7:25 am)

Wow……all I was saying is I have a home phone that I use to call friends. That’s why I don’t understand why I need a ‘walk around’ phone’ …. that’s all.

Regarding the absurd comments about providing jobs; silly comments. Would you say that about smokes and the wonderful fact of all the people employed in theor manufacturing? Would you say that about the thousands employed in the destruction caused by coal production……I can go on and on.

  • Mn October 15, 2011 (9:03 am)

    Oh please John
    Lighten up
If someone wants to purchase a phone great
If you choose not to great
Stop being so angry at the world
There are a lot worse places to be

  • Kate K October 15, 2011 (10:20 am)

It’s a phone, camera, ipod and GPS in one pretty package with tons of applications available. I don’t have to bring my laptop along as much, which is super convenient. Technology should make our lives easier – the iPhone certainly does that for both my work and personal life.

  • josh October 15, 2011 (10:56 am)

MP maybe if huge companies like Apple actually paid some taxes we could all have health insurance

  • jimb October 15, 2011 (12:56 pm)

MP…the jobs were in China. Apple products are made by foxconn in China. Steve Jobs, for all his brillance, sent his jobs overseas. Think about that!!!!

  • sam-c October 15, 2011 (2:26 pm)

the iphone also creates jobs where there is cheap labor for production and assembly. however, it’s really hard not to find anything that isn’t made with cheap labor outisde of the US.

  • Uncle Joe October 15, 2011 (5:16 pm)

That’s the last place on Earth I’d buy anything… I was in there twice. The first time the woman I dealt with knew next to nothing about the products and made assurances (which turned out to be false) to sell a more expensive phone. The second time, when I went in to complain they not only refused to make it right, but I had to wait in line behind another angry customer upset that she’d been “lied to”! Not a good addition to the community.

  • tiff October 15, 2011 (6:43 pm)

Cowpie, If I were ur friend I wouldn’t answer ur call. Phone calls are full of so much BS! “Hey how are you?” Then you have to waste like 5 friggin minutes on a bunch of small talk. Phone calls are for emergencies only!

Sorry, comment time is over.
