West Seattle Crime Watch: Another Alki robbery reported

For the second weekend in a row, someone has reported being assaulted and robbed on Alki. As noted in our most recent edition of the WSBeat police-report roundup, two men told police they were attacked in the 2500 block of Alki SW early Sunday, June 12, and one man’s wallet was taken. Then around 2 am today, we heard a “strong-arm robbery” call on the scanner, at 59th/Alki – two blocks from the previous incident – and followed up with Seattle Police media-response unit Det. Mark Jamieson: He says witnesses called 911 to report seeing a “male victim … assaulted, robbed of (his) wallet and iPhone.” There are not many other details because the victim was “not really cooperative at the scene,” Det. Jamieson says, but after Seattle Fire checked him out, he was taken to Harborview Medical Center. We have a question out to the Southwest Precinct to ask if there’s any suspicion the two incidents are related, and we’ll update with any additional information we get.

I love West Seattle, but I hate Alki during the summer. I feel unsafe down there and I shouldn’t have to feel this way in my own neighborhood. Hopefully the police will capture the people doing this, and everyone can visit Alki without fear.

Why do we have an aggressive driver team out giving traffic tickets, but not an anti-crime unit in plainclothes stinging the punks doing these robberies? Priorities seem skewed to the revenue-producing actions over the ones that really matter.

Any chance we could get a description of the perps??

I don’t have one and I don’t have access to the written report – those usually aren’t accessible for days after an incident. Precinct is checking for us on any additional info including whether there’s any suspicion the two incidents are linked – TR

CMeagh, I feel the same way, as soon as the weather starts to get nice and until it gets crappy again, I avoid Alki, which is a shame since it is so close.

I’m right there with you all. I love West Seattle, and live on alki ave. This time of the year always gets bad. We have already had 2 break in’s in my condo complex (Garage and a cars) this year.

It’s bad enough that since I have a CCW permit and I cary more often taking out the trash and going for walks in the evening AT HOME than I do any other time.

Apon talking to a SGT friend of mine he has warned me that they have even less night officers this year than normal.

CMeacgh – I too feel the same way. It’s horrible down there in the summer. I’ve never seen a ‘beach community’ so overrun with just plain thugs. Yet, there’s no police presence, it’s a joke.
We saw 7-8 cars parked on 59th/Alki the other night, on the side of the road that has NO parking. Just people looking for trouble sitting on their car hoods, yelling.

What can we do West Seattle? I’m tired of it.

Yes, I walk my dogs down there during the day on the weekends.
Am noticing what I think is more gang colors – red hats, handkerchiefs, shirts (and I don’t think they’re part of a baseball team :) among the folks who are cruising in their cars (one car had a guy hanging by a leg out passenger window and another guy (both in caps) sitting in the open car trunk) with loud music, definitely on display.

Sorry, comment time is over.
