On this one-month anniversary of the Japan earthquake: Being ready for disaster is more than your responsibility to yourself and your family – it’s also your responsibility to your neighborhood and community. As Disaster Preparedness Month continues, so does our monthlong series of reminders and reports. This time – new online resources including the West Seattle Be Prepared recap of Saturday’s Community Summit downtown – story and photos here. The focus here, how you can help your community. Read the recap here; and after the jump, more updates:

*With earthquake readiness a special focus this month, in light of not just the recent quakes on the other side of the Pacific, but also ongoing risk here, West Seattle Be Prepared has put together a list of its quake-specific resource links – find that here

*Next Saturday and Sunday, the Communications Academy at South Seattle Community College is for anyone interested in emergency communications – more details here. Note that there are registration fees (and you have a few more days to get a rate that’s cheaper than what you’ll pay at the door).

*In a week – a special SNAP (Seattle Neighborhoods Actively Prepare) training session with both West Seattle Be Prepared and West Seattle Blockwatch Captains Network. 6 pm Monday, April 18th, Southwest Precinct.

*One postscript to last week’s WSBP/Red Cross training session at the Senior Center of West Seattle – here’s our story, including video of the entire session – WSBP has uploaded copies of the slide decks and handouts, and published those links here.
