34th/Barton P-Patch closer to reality after City Council vote

The empty lot on the southwest corner of 34th and Barton is closer to becoming a P-Patch after city councilmembers voted unanimously today to declare it “surplus” for Seattle Public Utilities, meaning SPU can transfer it to the Department of Neighborhoods for community-garden use. That’s been in the works for more than a year (we got first word at a Parks and Green Spaces Levy Oversight Committee meeting in May 2009); next step should be a community design meeting, according to what a city rep told the Westwood Neighborhood Council in April.

It will be nice to see something there. Not just a place for kids to do doughnuts in their cars.

I WISH somebody will do something with the now defunct gas station.

    yay!! how cool!!
wouldn’t it be so cool if the gas station property was turned into someplace that people could hang out at too. could still even be a gas station but what if it was cool with maybe a little cafe, coffee shop (something that would not compete with bird on a wire) ice cream, etc attached or outside seating… could be a really nice gathering space and help to make that intersection a lot more appealing.

Wow, this is great, especially after the parks department told me that they would not even consider Ercolini park being turned into a P-Patch because it was too close the the other P-patch located in the Delridge Way area.

Sorry, comment time is over.
