West Seattle Crime Watch: Intruder on cam, and 3 other reports

Four West Seattle Crime Watch reports ahead – including an intruder caught on surveillance camera, pricey shoes pilfered from a car trunk, more car break-ins, and a puzzling porch theft – read on to see the reports (with a few photos):

First, Elija sent this photo of an intruder at British Auto Center in the Luna Park business district (the face was not very visible but we’ve obscured it a bit further):

On Tuesday, 27.April, at about 7 pm the person in the surveillance photograph … tore back a section of corrugated metal fence and entered the property. he remained for about 1/2 hour (according to the owner, Rusty Russ). It’s pretty clear that he was looking for copper wire, although whether he absconded with any remains unknown. The police were dispatched, but were unable to locate the suspect, nor readily determine if anything had been removed.

Please contact Rusty Russ @ the British Auto Center (206.935.0872) or the Seattle Police Department with any information.

A car-prowl victim who didn’t want to be identified reported this from the 2300 block of 44th SW (map):

(Tuesday night/Wednesday morning) my car was broken into (A 1997 Honda Civic), and a $600 pair of shoes stolen from my locked trunk. My trunk was locked from the inside – the locking mechanism was tampered with in order for the thieves to be able to pop the trunk from the inside. Also, I know for a fact that I had locked my car, so the thieves likely popped out my window, which is doable with a Honda.

My neighbor, who parks directly next to me, also discovered her car unlocked this morning as well, and she is positive it had been locked overnight.

The shoes in question, if anyone comes across them at a garage sale or consignment store are, Jimmy Choo, off-white satin slingback wedding shoes. Never worn. There is a very skinny bow across the top of each shoe. The dust cover was also stolen. Size 37.5 (7.5 in US sizes).

From Berto, via Facebook:

I was in the area of California and Juneau St (Raymond and 44th) block (Thursday) and i saw two cars with broken windows, there might be someone going around breaking car windows…. just thought I’d let you know so you can alert peeps….

Here’s the photo Berto sent:

And from Lee in the Belvidere area:

Woke up this morning to find someone had stolen the flower pots and planters from our front porch. Including one hand-crafted for my wife by one of her best friends as a gift and a cast-iron one that had to have weighed 100 lbs.

Seems like really strange things for someone to steal off of a porch… And I can’t imagine anyone being able to sell them, though some of them were pretty pricey.

You know whoever does this stuff is gonna have the worst karma. One of these days youre gonna get caught red handed and its gonna suck for you.

Why bother even posting a photo if you are going to obscure it further? Did this person get lost for a half hour? While trying to steal? Really Lame in my opinion. Why protect someone who is obvious stealing?

Frankly, the tiny bit of retouching I did in the facial area doesn’t make it look any different than it did, on further examination. But we are extremely serious about disclosing any retouching, as we disclose other things like sponsorships, so I mentioned it. Regarding whether he was obviously stealing – the photo does not show that. It shows the guy in the auto-shop yard. And even the report that came with it said they weren’t sure anything was taken. So we don’t know for sure that this is a thief – it’s actually a bit out on a limb for us to post it without that – but perhaps someone recognizes the build, the hair, the clothing – TR

I had weird items taken off my walk way also… someone decided that the yard deco turtle figurines I had were something they just had to have. Also just recently our 100ft bright orange extension cord was taken also. Neither of these items are obvious or viewable from the street, so someone is walking onto our walkway and looking for things to take. Pathetic. (Yes, I’ve emailed the thefts to Officer Kinlow).

Shannon – Benjamin Kinlow isn’t an officer and doesn’t investigate cases – he is a civilian who facilitates the crime-prevention program in terms of organizing and resources. So I hope that you have made an official report too – which can be done by phone – TR

TR, Thanks for the heads up. I was under the impression that he was an officer. I’ll be sure to check into that better. Thanks.

Flower pots, containers were probably stolen for “mother’s day” gifts!!! I had a 3 foot cement fox (weighing about 50 lbs!) and a hanging fushia stolen from my front yard the day before mother’s day a few years ago! Hope some mother see’s this and remembers she got these for mother’s day and smacks her kid!

Maybe a neighborhood kid hit a baseball over the fence and went in to find it?

My neighbor concretes their garden art. What area did the theft occur. Our house is nondescript, but I install garden art and sometimes have extra stuff lying around.

Anyone know what was going on Friday in the Admiral Junction, there were about 2-3 teens detained at 8:30pm on Admiral just west of California? An Hour before them being stopped by the police I seen one of the teens yelling towards another teen (sort of a slow chase) while headed to the Chevron, then saw him under arrest.
Not sure what transpired in that hour, but there were three cops cars with sirens that stopped them and handcuffed them.

    Porch Theft Victims:

Meth heads (any hard drug addict, really…) will steal anything they can that is not nailed down (or cemented down, nice approach by the way…)

It sucks when you can’t even have things that would take a group of strapping young people to move 10 feet.

    Addiction is a powerful motivator.

my neighbors car window was broken out. I don’t know if anything was stolen. It was parked near Holy Family School on 21st ave sw. Also about a month ago, there was a stolen car left in the same area. Cops were taking finger prints from the steering wheel. Lived in this area for about 12 years and this area is a hot spot to dump stolen vehicles. I’ve seen over a dozen cars stripped and left behind in this area. Mostly Honda’s.

Sorry, comment time is over.
