Video: Car hits parked car, flips on Delridge

That’s a tow truck finishing the two-step process of pulling a flipped car back to the upright position, about an hour after that car overturned on Delridge at Willow (map) around 1:10 am. The second car you see in the video was parked when the black car hit it, police told us at the scene. They say someone from the flipped car was taken to the hospital, though we don’t know how badly they’re hurt. The crash happened in the northbound lanes at a wide spot in the road, so Delridge wasn’t closed to traffic for long – cars were directed around the wreckage, using the center and southbound lanes.

I get the feeling drunk driving was involved; a police car followed the aid unit to the hospital. Also, poor unsuspecting little VW Bug!

Aw maaaaaan! I pedaled past that pretty green bug twice a day this week during the bicycle commute, wishing it were mine since it had a For Sale sign in the window….dammit!

This happened right behind my house… I was watching a movie and heard a loud bang and a little vibration. I rushed down the hill to assist since I have advanced first aid credentials. I was able to speak with the victim who was female and appeared not to be wearing a seatbelt due to her positioning in the vehicle, her injuries did not appear to be life threatening. Also I doubt the individual will be reading this but to the gentleman smoking near the vehicle, PLEASE NEVER DO THIS, especially when gasoline is puddled all around the vehicle.

The driver is ok, in ICU tonight, probably released tomorrow. She one of my dearest friends. Yes, there was alcohol involved, and yes, there are penalities pending. It stinks all around, but thanks to the folks who were there. I’m just glad she’s ok and people cared. It’s what makes West Seattle great. Lessons to be learned, thanks to be had.

    Make that “penalties”. Sigh.

    Veda,

Glad to hear she will be O.K. I had a D.U.I. over 10 years ago, so I know what she will be going through in the months ahead. I was a lesson for me and I never have even tried to drive under the influence since then. Sometimes all you need is a wake up call to correct your flaws and luckily this one did not involve another party. Anyhow tell her to keep her head up!

Thanks, I hear you loud and clear. I think she will as well. I’ve already lost two friends this way, and it’s two friends too many. It’s also a lesson to bars about overserving. Serving 6+ beers to someone who weighs about 95 pounds is a grievous mistake, in my opinion. Sorry to the folks who lost their VW bug.

Sorry, comment time is over.
