West Seattle Crime Watch: Car break-in report

From Heather:

I just thought I would send a note that my neighbor’s car was broken into last night. We’re in Highland Park on 17th between Trenton & Cloverdale (map). It seems they broke the window only to open the trunk….then threw most of the contents onto the ground. We think a camera was stolen out of the trunk but the radio was left untouched. My neighbor was waiting for the police when I left for work….not sure how long she had to wait or if there have been any other break-ins like this.

We covered tonight’s South Delridge/White Center Community Safety Coalition meeting, coverage area including Highland Park – report to come, but police didn’t report any particular spike in car break-ins.

There is no spike in car break-ins in West Seattle because no one is ever busted for doing it.
Arrests/prosecutions = 0, Car-prowls/break-ins stay at same, stupidly high level.

I know, I know, investigating burglaries takes valuable traffic ticket writing time.

If any SPD officers happen to be reading this, there’s an easy way to find at least some of these people: Look for Honda S2000 seats on craigslist. At least 95% are stolen. There aren’t really nicer seats available for the car, and unfortunately the stock leather recaros fit into Honda Civics. Since it’s a convertible, thieves don’t even have to break a window.

    dont forget ebay too!

Thieves dont have a life to do something else besides breaking/entering. all we NEED to do is ::: Keep our vehicles clean and i always leave a note on my driver’s seat – “BUG OFF – you are on the camera” that works!!!

The car we park on the street has been “broken” into three times in the last year. We live in the 8800 block of 30th SW. It has always been minor items taken and it is a hassle making the report. The last time was on 01/27/10. We were in bed when the phone rang just before 11 PM and caller ID showed it was my husband’s cell phone. The police were a block away with the suspects. My husband got his items back and they took fingerprints off the vehicle as the items were not on the suspects but on the sidewalk. Someone had reported seeing suspicious behavior so the police were in the area searching. We are going to invest in an alarm system before some scumbag causes damage to the vehicle. I am grateful that someone took the time to call 911 when they saw suspicious behavior.

We live at 12th and Cloverdale and my husband’s truck tool box (the big silver ones in the bed of the truck) was broken into about 2 weeks ago and the toolbox within it was stolen. Mostly little tools, hammers, wrenches, etc., but all stuff he uses and needs…and having been laid off a few days prior to that, we aren’t in a position to replace them. The worst part was that they took the actual tool box though. ANd they had to have gotten into a car to get away because that 3 foot bow was HEAVY. It wasn’t worth much in terms of money, it was just an old toolbox his uncle had given him, but he had a friend paint it and it took a lot of time and care. More sentimental than anything. So…if you see a white toolbox with blue flames in a local pawn shop…it’s stolen. My husband was so mad that he didn’t hear anything, he slept downstairs on the couch the next few nights. Sooo aggravating that this kind of stuff keeps happening to everyone! What boils my blood more than anything is that the back of his truck has big Iraq and Afghanistan veteran stickers, jerks…he’s been through enough! Can’t help but make a person wonder who they were fighting for :(
