More than 100 people jammed the Chief Sealth HS Library (at Boren) last night for the International Baccalaureate program’s Information Night. IB is a rigorous academic program for juniors and seniors, with some components even good for college credit. This is the second year for IB at Sealth; we spent a moment last night talking with the program coordinator, Laura Robb – our clip, and more info, just ahead:

Sealth’s website has a ton of official information about IB, including a comparison between IB and AP (advanced placement) – one big difference, Robb explains, is that IB cred is truly “international”; it applies around the world. Right now, she says, about 25 students are taking all six IB courses at Sealth, but they aren’t so focused on having more students taking all the courses – they would like to see more students who are taking at least one. The IB program is considered a major draw for Sealth attendance, and some families are taking a look even before they choose a high school – more than a few middle-school families came to listen to last night’s presentation. If you have questions that aren’t answered on the Sealth website, the IB page also has e-mail and phone info for Robb, who’d be happy to talk with you.
