West Seattle Saturday morning scenes

Thanks to Christy Johnson of On Focus Photo for that incredible shot of this morning’s sunrise, taken just after 5 am. (Just LOOKS like a day that’s going to get close to 90 degrees; in fact, the National Weather Service now has a “Heat Advisory” in effect till 9 pm Sunday.) Christy also advises us she’ll have a booth selling her work at the upcoming West Seattle Summer Fest (7/11-7/13) in The Junction. Speaking of The Junction – if you’re driving in that area today, be forewarned about this:

We told you Thursday about the plans for last night’s road work – and the “seal coat” you see above is the result of that, with cars kicking up some dust when we passed through earlier today.

Thank you, Eilene and d! Well, I guess I should also thank my hungry cat for waking me up at 5am so I could catch the sunrise.

Awesome! Was this taken from a ferry?

  • Christy June 29, 2008 (11:05 am)

WW, it was taken from my balcony with an 80-200 zoom lens. First time I’ve used it actually. I digitally removed a wooden piling from the lower right hand corner — one of the pilings next to Salty’s, if that helps place it. Thanks for asking!

That is incredible what a beautiful city we live in. Great picture Christy Do you sell your work?

  • Christy June 29, 2008 (1:41 pm)

Hi HP, thanks for asking. Yes, I sell my work. I sell prints online at OnFocusPhoto.com and at local festivals I sell matted prints, bookmarks, and note cards. I will have a booth at the West Seattle Summer Fest, July 11-13 — I’m told I’ll be across from Garlic Jim’s. After that I will be at Bite of Seattle. Stop by if you have a chance.

That “seal coat” looks like a pile of loose gravel spread all over what just one year ago was pristine new asphalt. It makes me sick to drive california now – as noted, just one year after it was completely repaved from Edmunds to Admiral – and see how cut up its gotten already.

While riding my bicycle I almost lost it turning the corner there. I really had no clue about the gravel. I was racing to make it through while the light was green. Did they have “loose gravel” signs posted?

Sorry, comment time is over.
