Busy night around West Seattle; we covered three events – first, here are quick notes from the Fauntleroy Community Association monthly meeting, including what’s been going on with the campaign to save the Fauntleroy Schoolhouse in the two weeks since the community meeting about it (WSB coverage here):

FAUNTLEROY SCHOOLHOUSE: As we reported yesterday, the school district’s official public hearing on the plan to sell the property is now set for 6:30 pm April 29 (at the schoolhouse, of course). Though it seems to be mostly a procedural step the district is required to go through, Fauntleroy leaders feel a strong community turnout will be important. Vicki Schmitz-Block, who’s closely involved with the campaign, said she’s “cautiously optimistic” they will succeed in saving the schoolhouse. Fauntleroy Community Services Agency is continuing to pursue grants to apply toward the millions that would be needed to buy the land and then renovate the building.

SAME NIGHT AS THE SCHOOLHOUSE PUBLIC HEARING: If you hadn’t already seen it on the WSB Events page — April 29 is also the night Endolyne Joe’s is raising money for Fauntleroy Fall Festival, 5 pm till closing.

FOOD FEST POSTMORTEM: Turnout was about 200. (WSB coverage here)

BUS SHELTERS: FCA is talking with Metro about decorating the bus shelters. Metro will provide panels and paint for free if community volunteers will decorate the panels and return them to Metro for installation and sealing. The two shelters being looked at first by FCA are at 44th/Brace Point and across from the ferry terminal.

SPEAKING OF FERRIES: Gary Dawson reported on meetings he has attended recently with Washington State Ferries‘ new director David Moseley introducing himself to local community members. He says WSF wants to start talking this fall about long-term plans for the system. Dawson also had an update on local student commuters’ petition (WSB coverage here) for an extra Vashon-Fauntleroy ferry run at mid-afternoon; he says WSF just doesn’t have the ability to make that happen, since it’s already stretched so thin.

By the way, if you live in the greater Fauntleroy area, you can find out more about the Fauntleroy Community Association — including how to join — at its frequently updated website, fauntleroy.net.
