From the inbox: Any other ex-Atlantans?

Received in e-mail today from new WSB reader Maryanne:

Hi! I am new to Seattle and particularly West Seattle. Is anyone out there from Atlanta? I am trying to compare my cool little neighborhood here to one out there… I live in “Cabbagetown” I know it’s strange but it is the best little neighborhood ever! Little “shotgun” houses, everyone has a dog, a porch where we all say hello while walking by, a very unique and not uptight neighborhood. Where is my cabbagetown out there?

I moved from here to Atlanta in 2002, declared Atlanta to be an unlivable dump, and came back here in 2003.

I can’t claim to have spent any time in Cabbagetown.

Based on a Google search of cabbagetown, I would suggest you check out Georgetown, our West Seattle neighbor. Tight knit active neighborhood, arts and music community, historic interest. Georgetown is surrounded by industry and Boeing Field airport, so it is not for everyone, but many of us love it.

If you want to live in West Seattle proper, I would think you might want to be near the Alaska Junction in terms of a walkable, livable community.

    Welcome to Seattle!

Just so you know, avoid the vicinity of Peachtree Street. Seattle doesn’t have one.

    Corner of Delridge & Holden.

i use to spend a good bit of time in Cabbagetown, and would agree that Georgetown is the closest thing in Seattle… but it would be Cabbagetown before the Cotton Mill was completely converted into condos. (and you won’t find a cemetery quite as beautiful as Oakwood either.)

I’m from Altanta as well. You’ll be just fine in little ol’ WS. Just be prepared for the cost of living difference. Housing prices are 2-3 times what they are in and around Atlanta.

Sorry, comment time is over.
