WEST SEATTLE URBAN FARM TOUR: 10 am-3 pm, organized by Seattle Farm School – tour “urban farm” food-growing sites in West Seattle. SW ORCHARD AT DELRIDGE: For Seattle Public Utilities‘ project at Delridge/Orchard – “Between Thursday, August 6 and Tuesday, August 11, SPU crews will grind, pave, and stripe SW Orchard Street. This work will require the closure of the westbound lane on SW Orchard Street (east of Delridge Way SW). The westbound lane will be opened to traffic during non-work hours. During the closure, all westbound traffic will be diverted to the eastbound lane with the assistance of a traffic flagger.”

ALKI AVENUE & BEACH DRIVE PAVING: Lane closures are expected between 7 am and 7 pm for the SDOT paving project announced for Alki SW between the 1300 and 1700 blocks and for Beach Drive/61st/Spokane.

VOTE BY 8 PM! 51,000 of the 60,000 West Seattle/South Park ballots still had NOT been turned in as of last night. Here’s how you can still get your primary-election ballot in by the deadline:

-Get it to a US Postal Service box/post office/letter carrier by evening pickup so it’ll be postmarked today (remember, this requires a stamp, NOT the case for the KC Elections options below)

-Get it to a King County Elections ballot-dropoff van – there’s one at West Seattle Stadium (where we photographed the crew, above, on Monday afternoon, when they’d already received 200 ballots for the day) and one outside Greenbridge Library in White Center, both there until the 8 pm deadline

-Get it into a King County Elections dropbox – here’s the list of locations (also a deadline of 8 pm tonight.)

-Vote at a King County accessible-voting center (Seattle, Renton, or Bellevue) by 8 pm

LOW TIDE, WITH BEACH NATURALISTS: With the full moon approaching, today’s low tide is at 10:42 am – out to -2.0 feet – and Seattle Aquarium volunteer beach naturalists will be awaiting you, 9:45 am-12:15 pm, on the shores of Constellation Park and Lincoln Park.

BLUE ANGELS & BRIDGE CLOSURES: Not West Seattle but visible/audible from here, so we track them again this year. From Seafair, for today:

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels #s 1-4 will take off at 9:35 a.m. on Thurs., July 30 from Boeing Field near the Museum of Flight for circle and arrival maneuvers in preparation for the Boeing Air Show. They will be in the air over the city getting familiar with the area. First, #s 1-4 and #8 will take off for a look at the South Lake Washington event site at approx.. 10 a.m.. At 10:35 a.m. #s 5-6 will walk down. The I-90 Bridge will be closed between 9:45 a.m. and noon.

All Blue Angels jets will return to Boeing Field and be on the ground for a short time. Following that, numbers 1-6 will take to the air for a practice performance over Lake Washington at approx. 1:15 p.m.. Again, the I-90 Bridge will be closed between 1:15 p.m. and 2:40 p.m. for this practice.

Highlights from the WSB West Seattle Event Calendar:

LOW-LOW TIDE: With the full moon approaching, low tides are low enough for excellent beachwalking. Today at 9:58 am, it’ll be out to -1.5 feet.

BLUE ANGELS FLYBY: Seafair announced late last night that in addition to the solo Blue Angels jet making flights today with “key influencers” (including soccer star Megan Rapinoe at 9:30 am), the team will fly over Safeco Field toward the start of today’s Mariners game, around 12:30 pm. No road closures since it’s not a practice show – those start tomorrow. They’re subsequently heading over Whidbey Island, and of course you’ll likely see/hear them on the return to Boeing Field, too.

SEAFAIR PARADE OF SHIPS: You’ll likely see some other military aircraft, including a Coast Guard helicopter, while this is under way, starting off West Seattle shores at 1 pm or so (time may vary, as the only “official” time is 1:45 pm along the downtown waterfront, but the Seafair fleet usually stages to the west, off Alki Point, and heads eastward along shore. · Train horns are intended to be noisy, typically between 85 dBA and 115 dBA at 100 ft compared to a jet airplane at 600 ft altitude causing 120 dBA. Will the port install quiet zones at public street train crossings to mitigate train horn noise?

· Regarding T5 expansion traffic impacts: Please walk us through your justification that a $230M expansion project, that appears to significantly increase multimodal congestion in an already heavily congested area, didn’t require an EIS? In other words, how do you know that this will work for you as well as residents and other businesses in WS without due diligence?

WEST SEATTLE GRAND PARADE: 11 am is the official start time for the big annual parade, but if you’re watching from the start of the parade route at California/Lander, you’ll want to be in place by 10:30 or so, as the motorcycle drill teams usually get going a bit earlier. More than 90 entries from floats and marching bands and drill teams, to school, business, community groups; the parade is presented by West Seattle Rotary and continues southbound along California to Edmunds in The Junction.

MEDITERRANEAN FANTASY FESTIVAL: 11 am-7 pm, the first of two days full of belly dancers and vendors on the east lawn at Hiawatha Community Center and in the gym, as previewed here. (2700 California SW)

FIRE STATION 11 OPEN HOUSE: As previewed here yesterday, FS 11 in Highland Park is open 11 am-1 pm today for an open house showing off its seismic and safety upgrades. (16th/Holden)

COVE PARK AND BARTON PUMP STATION: 2-4 pm, celebrate the reopening of Cove Park and the completion of the Barton Pump Station Upgrade after three years. Just north of the Fauntleroy ferry terminal, with a ribbon-cutting celebration and tours of the pump station – closed-toe shoes are required if you want to take a tour. More info here. WEST SEATTLE OUTDOOR MOVIES: 6:30 pm, gates open at the courtyard next to Hotwire Online Coffeehouse (WSB sponsor) for this year’s first movie, “Zoolander.” The movie starts at dusk. COLMAN POOL CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC: Second day of a 2-day swim-meet closure at the outdoor pool on the shore at Lincoln Park. Back open to the public on Sunday.

NO ALKI POINT LIGHTHOUSE TOURS TODAY: But they too will resume tomorrow.
