Update: Man shot along Roxbury – accidentally self-inflicted, investigators say
August 28, 2012 at 7:54 pm | In West Seattle news, White Center, WS breaking news | 21 Comments
7:54 PM: Just got a note about more than a dozen emergency vehicles on SW Roxbury. We believe this is related to the King County Sheriff’s Office reporting a possible shooting in the 9600 block of 11th SW. More when we get there.
8 PM UPDATE: KCSO Sgt. Cindi West updates that this apparently is an accidental shooting. She tells our crew that a man appears to have been walking with a gun in his pocket, and when he reached into his pocket, the gun went off. He shot himself in the leg; he’s been taken to the hospital. Traffic is still moving on Roxbury, and the scene will be wrapping up.

Nice….really nice….
Thank goodness it was just his own stupid mistake and not any innocent people in the area.

hmmmm … scary thought carrying a gun in your pocket.

Guns guns guns….I’m getting sick of hearing about them. Idiots.
Comment by timh2o — 8:59 pm August 28, 2012 #
I don’t mean this to sound as bad as it may come out, but glad it was just him that was shot. And glad that it didn’t ricochet off the ground or something and hit anyone else. …..This sounds like a good time to quote a wise man, Johnny Cash… He once sang, “Don’t take your guns to town son. Leave your guns at home Bill. Don’t take your guns to town.”

Per Seattle Times, he is 19 years old & shot himself in the upper left groin.
Comment by evergreen — 10:02 pm August 28, 2012 #
I doubt the guy had a permit to carry. I would hazard a guess that if you are smart enough to get a permit, you wouldn’t carry a gun in your pocket.
Comment by Eric1 — 10:11 pm August 28, 2012 #
Wow. If this guy has a CCW, he needs to have it revoked immediately. I hope that the concealed carry crowd endorses safe carry… He could have easily killed himself or others. If he doesn’t have a CCW, I hope he’s arrested after he gets out of the hospital, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of any law forbidding such carelessness.
Comment by I Love Alki — 11:27 pm August 28, 2012 #
Re: the speculation … I will be following up further tomorrow … please hold your fire, so to speak, in the meantime. Bottom line still remains, there’s a guy in the hospital. Hope he heals OK. – Tracy

lie why didnt he get caught with the gun and what you people should really tell the truth there is a lot to the story
Comment by adrien — 12:03 am August 29, 2012 #
This is the truth – in terms of what police said. All we are reporting here is that police said X, and it is an absolute fact that police said x. That doesn’t mean X is the truth – it just means X is what police said. Whether police have all the information, I don’t know, but if you have more information, I sure hope you have spoken to them – because otherwise, how would they know?
Comment by WSB — 12:32 am August 29, 2012 #
what a moron probably is even allowed to have a gun. I don’t know any legitimate gun owner that carries a handgun in their pocket. I hope charges are filed if this is someone who is not supposed to own firearms
Comment by Nick — 10:09 am August 29, 2012 #
adrien: I don’t understand your comment. Can you please restate?
Comment by bridge to somewhere — 10:16 am August 29, 2012 #
UH OH here comes the gun control brigade. Let those whines flow!
Comment by cr — 4:37 pm August 29, 2012 #
See? The gun didn’t do it. People who are not smart with their guns did it.
Comment by NotMe — 7:32 pm August 29, 2012 #
Carrying a gun in a pocket is not unreasonable, provided you carry it in a pocket holster. This prevents the trigger from being accidentally pulled.
