King County budget: How it could affect crimefighting

September 30, 2009 at 10:06 am | In Crime, West Seattle news, White Center | 8 Comments

The first King County Council Budget Committee hearing on the new county budget proposal is under way right now, and they’re starting with criminal-justice leaders including Sheriff Sue Rahr and Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg. You can watch live online here; we’re also tracking highlights at partner site White Center Now, since Sheriff Rahr contends that this budget could result in a 75 percent reduction in patrol power in the White Center area (and other nearby unincorporated areas).

  2. So a 4% King County budget decrease results in a 75% cut in White Center patrols… Makes sense to me.

  3. The cut in Public Safety is intolerable!!!
    .
They make cuts in ESSENTIAL areas, yet continue to fund special interest programs. This way they can ask for tax hikes using the cut in Public Safety as a reason for the hike.
    .
Seattle, King County and Washington State govt need to start funding the NEEDS 100% before they fund the WANTS 1%.

  7. I know, I was too terrified to elaborate! I’ve been shaking ever since! I grew up two blocks from Roxbury and still have nightmares that I’m living back there. Such a huge reduction in force is going to bring back the bad dreams!
