Latest from land-use land

Catching up on info from Monday (one of the two days each weekalaskasite.jpg when the city sends out its Land Use Information Bulletin, among other info sources):

-The land-use permits have just been issued for the megaproject that will bring QFC, Office Depot, apartments, and more to the ex-Hollywood Video site (photo right): it’s got two addresses, so two permits (4100 Alaska and 4122 Alaska).

-The permit’s also finalized for the “vegetation/tree removal” plan along Beach Drive (it too has two addresses, one on Beach and one on Atlas) that we previously lamented.

-There’s an addition to the agenda for the Southwest Design Review Board meeting @ SW Precinct Community Room a week from Thursday: After board members get the latest on the Charlestown Cafe site at 6:30, they’ll be dealing at 8 with the “mixed-use” project @ 2310 Cali. (For those concerned about the cafe site’s future, remember the community meeting this Thursday.)

7:15 AM UPDATE: The morning digest of yesterday’s city action is just in; a land-use permit was issued for the other Junction Megaproject, Fauntleroy Place. Busy times.

  1. From the ‘not in WS but close’ land – there’s a land use action sign up at the old Wendy’s/Ezell’s/Peruvian restaurant. Looks like another apartment building.

  3. Let’s get it going already. It seems like they’ll never tear down Shucks. I’ll be collecting my SSI check before they start building Whole Foods. Not that I like WF, but let’s go…

  4. Yeah lets build MORE condos, MORE townhouses, MORE apartments and high density residences in West Seattle. Lets build “big box” stores to replace businesses that have been in West Seattle for years.

Lets keep the zoning laws that allow four single-family homes to be torn down and replaced by 16 townhomes like what happened on 42nd Ave SW, next to Holy Rosary Church and School, and in the Gatewood area

All of this WITHOUT increasing traffic capacity, improving traffic flow or increasing parking.

I guess everyone will just be forced to use bikes or take METRO to move anywhere in WS.

All of this smacks of Social Engineering and forcing people to take mass transit.

Tell you what…until I see our civic “leaders” (re; Nickles and the City Council) take the bus to City Hall and start leading by example I’ll stay off busses.

Until these “high density” housing/business projects are placed in the neighborhoods and communitees of these so called civic leaders we should protest and use any legal means to STOP these projects.
