Cat missing west of The Junction – August 25, 2013 10:14 pm

Our dear sweet cat went missing the morning of August 25th @ 6 am. My kids and I awoke to something attacking her on our front porch, so she may be injured. During the scuffle she lost her collar. She’s long hair black/gray 1 yr old female. Leo is her name. 48th Ave SW between Alaska & Oregon.
Call if you think you may have seen her!!206 -794-1853! Thanks!

It’s important to know about a cat’s threshold meaning the length of time a cat will stay in hiding before venturing out to come back home if possible or to look for food could be any where from 2 to 3 days or 7 to 10 days depending on the cats personality.

Since Leo was attacked and possibly hurt she could be hiding very close by usually when an outdoor cat is hurt they will tend to go to their outside litter box so if you know where your cat hangs out when she is outside check that location first. Also the fact that she could be hurt and scared she most likely will not come to you when you call her name.

If you don’t know where she hangs out then I suggestion to rule out your property would be to do a Target/Physical search: meaning Search your property with a high power flash light even during the day check under decks, bushes, and tress/roofs places a cat can hide and/or get shut in.

NEXT Very Important is to do a Physical search of your neighbor’s yards. Get permission from your neighbors to search their yards w/ a high power flash light and look for every possible area where Leo may be hiding. Your neighbors will most likely not get on their hands and knees and look for Leo and if she is locked in something even if they open it up it doesn’t mean she’ll run out at that very moment.

Put up large neon posters within several blocks of point of escape.

To be effective, make your neon posters out of the largest sheet of fluorescent poster board you can find. Use a black Magic Marker and write “REWARD” at the top and “LOST CAT” at the bottom. Use a sheet protector to put your 8×11 flyer in using clear packing tape & tape the sheet protector in the center of the large neon poster. You poster flyer should consist mostly of a picture of your cat and your phone number. Make sure you write down each sighting, callers name, date & time of day the sighting came in.

Get flyers to all the local vets, pet stores, your shelter , and create a craigslist ad

Other tools: camera, humane trap, and bait stations

    good luck

Sorry your kitty is missing. Be sure to her favorite food out for her. If you need to borrow a humane trap, we will loan you one and provide instructions. Missing Pet Partnership has a great website with (free) tips on how to look for a missing pet:
