WSBKeymasterWe’ll be publishing the “sponsor welcome” post tomorrow on the home page with more information but just to let bargainhunters know in advance, the White Center Swap Meet, after its “soft launch” the past month and a half or so, is ready to officially grand-open and is advertising that on WSB – one big change, they will be open 8:30 am-4:30 pm starting this weekend (both days) – they realized a lot of bargain hunters prefer shopping early (previously they’d been opening afternoon-early evening). If you checked them out in the early going, worth another look.

inactiveMemberI went in a mid Sat afternoon about two or three weekends ago, I think it was.
Only six vendors.
The day Mgr. told me that they had reduced the rates for vendors. So if you know any sellers, tell them to check out the new rates. I chatted with a couple of the vendors. A bakery out of Renton was there. Fairy Forest??? or something like that.
It is a very pleasant, clean, well cared for space. Experienced vendors should check it out. Regular SW neighborhood folks could have a winter yard/garage sale there to make a few extra bucks for Christmas, or whatever. I’ve even thought of bringing some decent, not quite antique furniture over to try to sell if I thought buyers would show up and I could spare the time to sit all day to do that. :].
Anyway, if anybody does get over there this weekend, do report back on what you see.

inactiveMemberHey –
Just bumping this in case anyone is thinking about stopping by the Skating Rink today or tomorrow.
I can’t make it this weekend, but am curious what the status is of vendors, etc. Maybe other folks are too, so perhaps you will want to post your observations, eh?
Thanks.

TrickParticipantI love the idea as well, and visited the first weekend, but haven’t been back since.
I would be interested in seeing this flourish if there were some more vendors.

WSBKeymasterWe stopped by earlier this morning and it was pretty thin. Perhaps the holiday weekend – Patrick met with them on one of the swap-meet days last weekend and it was busier. The operators have someone working on finding more vendors. They really did do a lot of interior work to make the place shine as a potential venue for this and for events – I have been there since the renovation, and also remember going in during its last years as a skating rink (Junior Member of the Team did a lot of skating with school classes) and it definitely was a different place pre-work; it’s brighter now, among other things.

MargLMemberI stopped by at around 11:30… One vendor selling watches, used CDs/Tapes, some gems and jewelry and other misc yard sale-type stuff. The other lady there asked him if he’d sold anything. He said one thing. There may be a cyclical problem of shoppers going and being disappointed so they don’t go back which means the vendors aren’t selling anything so they also don’t set up shop the next weekend ’cause it’s not worth it if you’re not going to sell anything.
I was also confused about where to park. There was a sign in the front lot saying I’d get towed if I parked there and I’d get towed if I parked in the bank lot next door. Not sure I even want to walk several blocks for what I found being sold.

WSBKeymasterWe discovered a little-known fact: There is a breezeway walkthrough directly from 16th SW, where there is usually a fair amount of angled parking. A sign over the breezeway marks it on 16th. I’ll have to get the exact street number.
