CRIME WATCH: About the police response on 26th SW

A few blocks south of the city limit and west of White Center, a reader asked why deputies had blocked off 26th SW and SW 104th a few hours ago. King County Sheriff’s Office says it was “some sort of vehicle recovery – the car was possibly stolen and the driver was passed out or having some sort of medical emergency and was taken to Harborview.”

Using the term “medical emergency” can be so misleading, a stolen car and passed out driver usually equates to drug consumption, until proven otherwise why go against the odds that society knows as the usual reason for such news.

This is a direct quote from the KCSO.

Drug use can lead to a medical emergency but it is not an emergency in and of itself.  KCSO is using the appropriate terminology.

Being passed out or unconscious due to acute drug intoxication is an emergency, you want that person waking up and driving towards you or while being chased by the police?  Doing dope in a car while in the drivers seat doesn’t end well for you or the innocent bystanders affected by your piss poor decision.  Quit the coddling, dope kills.

I’m sorry, but it’s not up to you to define these things.  The police know what they’re doing, just let them do their jobs.  Drug consumption can lead to a medical emergency, but is not one in and of itself.  Accurately describing the situation is professionalism, not coddling.  There’s no need to villainize the police over this.

This is a weird rant you’re on. “Medical emergency” was and is far more accurate than your incorrect assumption of a drug overdose.  And even if it were an OD, who’s being “coddled” by the media referring to it as a medical emergency?  Lastly, stop saying “doing dope” like it’s 1975.

Why don’t you move if you have a problem with these people that have medical emergencies. Maybe they are being kind and exercising caution because they don’t actually know the answer.

“Question Authority,” but stop at questioning your own biases. couldn’t be me.

Perhaps we can just thank the S.P.D?  Thank you S.P.D.

I happened to walk by this response as it was happening, and for context, I’m pretty sure that car’s been sitting there for weeks and that there has been someone living in it.

People do live in their cars, I’m really tired of all the complaints about people living in their car. They obviously don’t want to be in that situation, treating them like they are less than human is just rude. Everyone experiences at least one crisis in their life, I hope that when you have yours people are kinder than you have been.

I did not read white center residents comment as saying anything derogatory about the person in the car.

Yeah, I was keeping my comment neutral. I am all for homeless rights and I feel that it’s a travesty how homeless people are treated in this country. I want housing access for all and I am certainly not going to call the cops on anyone doing what they need to in order to survive.

      • white center resident November 11, 2024 (9:19 pm)

I was actually posting to raise awareness of the notion that the King County Sheriff Department was potentially enacting violence against a homeless person.

Oh I see, I appreciate your comments and concern. I worry about them too. I agree that they are treated terribly. Thank you for explaining. I’m sorry, I misread what you meant. One of my friends actually had to live in his car when he was going through a divorce. He had a full time job but couldn’t afford to pay child support, alimony and pay for his own place. I don’t think people understand the diverse situations that make people end up living in their cars.

Sorry, comment time is over.
