JanSParticipantjiggers, what do you think are the characteristics of a real man?
I think…someone who is wise, who respects himself and others – and the world. Who doesn’t put people down. Who doesn’t become boastful. Who puts women on an equal basis, and doesn’t treat them as sex objects, or objects that he can abuse. It’s someone who is humble, and kind.
That’s a start…anyone else want to add to that? Subtract from that?

JanSParticipantor you could go by this little article in Esquire – lol

Genesee HillParticipantA real man would not even consider buying a new Fiat 500 Abarth unless his mommy taught him how to drive a manual transmission. If not, stick with the Honda Fit for “man wimps”. Automatic only.
March 28, 2013 at 3:48 am #786734
hammerheadParticipantI CAN drive a stick, but I would personally never drive this little thing. I drive a big truck.
SO what makes a real woman, because I fit/do most of those descriptions of a man.
I’m just saying.

JanSParticipantwell, yes…the same goes for women…
March 28, 2013 at 4:57 am #786736
JanSParticipantI know we would never look on men as sex objects ;-)
March 28, 2013 at 5:37 am #786737
LisaParticipant… I think being a real Man or Woman… might start by putting gender stereotypes aside… and looking at being a ‘real’ Person… just saying… :)

SonomaParticipantHa! As soon as I saw the discussion topic, I knew it was Jiggers! A real man appreciates and knows how to converse with women (appreciates their intelligence and sense of humor in addition to the “other” attributes), is handy and competent, is respected by his peers, is confident without being arrogant, uses his god-given talents, and won’t flatulate on his first, second, third, or fourth date.

JanSParticipantSonoma…made me giggle…agreed :D

2 Much WhineParticipantThere is only one REAL man. His name is Chuck Norris.
March 28, 2013 at 2:41 pm #786741
happywalkerParticipantI thought a real man drives a truck with REAL BIG tires…that you need a ladder to get in.
March 28, 2013 at 2:48 pm #786742
miwsParticipanthappywalker, it also has to have a Cummins Diesel, and….ummmm…. that aftermarket accessory that gives the truck itself the appearance of being of the male gender. ;-)

JoBParticipanta real man is one who can say “another day of this isn’t going to do anyone any good. move along.”
and enforce it..
and even more so if he can do so in our mundane stick built world ;->

JiggersMemberToday’s real man is to stay at home and take care of the baby while his wife brings home the bacon…
March 28, 2013 at 5:43 pm #786749
TeslaMemberInteresting DBP:
I admire your insightful, algorithmic satire! It is a great beginning.
…however, this effort got me wondering if such algobots are not already in place…
March 28, 2013 at 5:53 pm #786750
JoBParticipantTesla..
nope.. i think it’s people powered.
as are the comments that cause a topic to close ;->
March 28, 2013 at 5:59 pm #786751
DBPMemberYeah, Tezz. Just when things get interesting, that’s when they go away.
That’s how you know they are interesting, see? Cuz they’re not there.
“The Thread Who Wasn’t There”
by Hughes Mearns and DBP
Yesterday, upon the stair
I met a thread who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
I wish, I wish, he’d go away
But you know, Tezz, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone was actually saving all these threads that aren’t there.
Just to prove that he really DID see them.

DBPMemberTezz, at least there’s also some poetic justice in the fact that whenever a really long thread is iced, chances are that more liberal comments are getting deep-sixed than anything. So actually, it’s the liberals who are being stifled more than anyone else.
Does that frustrate them I wonder . . .
The person who started the most recent thread that wasn’t there was looking for high tragedy. But the denouement came and the curtain fell before she could fairly clamber up on stage.
And perhaps that’s the most tragic thing of all.
(Or maybe not.)

JanSParticipantI am sincerely thankful that you two have bonded…and am sincerely thankful that you two are here to explain it all to the rest of us. My sincere thanks…
