Anybody know how to get to Cherie of Cherie’s grooming. The phone is disconnected and even though the building was demolished, I thought she was still doing business elsewhere? She was a part of the community for quite a while and it is a shame she is gone ;-(

I just did some searching, (as you probably did), and couldn’t find anything really conclusive, other than a Yelp review, where the Reviewer—a repeat customer—updated their review that the shop was permanently closed.

I also checked the Seattle Business License page, and couldn’t find anything under the letter “C”, for “Cherie’s”. Admittedly, my experience using that page is little, so I suppose there’s a chance that it could be under a different name.

So sad to see another longtime WS business go away, even if it’s one I’ve never had a need for.

On a more personal basis, I’m sad to see the little building gone, (Parcel Viewer even has an image showing the now vacant lot), :-( as I have very fond memories of the building as Beck’s Grocery, where as a kid in the ’60’s, we kids would get our penny candy from Mrs. Beck. I lived on the above block, at 38th & Manning.

There may have been mention of the demo, or perhaps when it was pending, but I don’t recall seeing anything, so this came as a bit of a shock. :-(

I have used Cherie’s and was happy with her commitment to the neighbors and she always ran the business like a small neighborhood shop. If anyone has used her for grooming regularly and has any information, I would appreciate anything they can give.

    Thanks!

The owner of Canine Casa down by Endolyne Joe’s is Cherie. The same person maybe?

I don’t know what happened to Cherie; but I live next door to the site of Beck’s Grocery/longtime home of Frank who originally owned the pet grooming biz/estate sale robbery/now a big hole in the ground; the demo happened late summer; then it sat for long time waiting for permits; they set up porta-potty and started the big dig couple weeks ago; dig dig dig daily and trucking out dirt; I’m afraid this will take forever

    ~

would love to see a pic of original Beck’s Grocery if anyone has one; when I went into the estate sale (thankfully left just prior to the robbery) I was trying to figure out which part of the building was the original little neighborhood store; very hard to tell; wish you had been there Mike; you would have known

fyi; that building was horribly toxic; even after they had a hazmat team come in for few days to remove asbestos; the dust from demo blew into my windows, even with them shut as tight as possible, and I got sick for couple days from it; at least that really dangerous part is over; the rest will just be noisy; and a sweet young family with little kids down the street is moving in

Diane, I’d love to see an old pic too. It would probably be a stroke of sheer luck, if there was one in an online archive, as Beck’s probably didn’t stand out any more than any other corner grocery of the time (other than in the minds of us neighborhood kids. :-) )

I don’t believe there happens to be one in West Side Story, but will have to take a gander.

As I remember, the store was pretty much at the front and northernmost parts of the building. As a kid, (and actually maybe even until it made the news regarding that unfortunate incident at the Estate Sale) I just thought of it as a little stand-alone, not attached to any house, or anything.

    Yay Google!

Here’s a Small Town Papers Archive pic, of Beck’s, from February 9, 1939, apparently when Mr. & Mrs. Beck had just located there (a simple question, or occasionally short series of survey style questions will need to be answered to view):

Of course, in my earliest memory of Beck’s, from around 50 years ago now, there would have at least been a different paint job.

I don’t recall Mr. Beck, just Mrs. Beck, so she was maybe widowed by then, or Mr. Beck was ill and couldn’t assist at the Store.

    I’ll look for more pics!

I just started a new “Corner Groceries” thread, so will continue any “Beck’s” stuff over there!
