Without getting political, I was wondering how the economy is affecting my local West Seattlites. When do you think it will get better? What have you cut back on? What have you splurged on?

Just seeing if anyone else is feeling the same way.

Our family has tried to go out to eat less, maybe once or twice a month less and we spent less at christmas this year.

Todd…it sucks, to put it bluntly. I’m a massage therapist, and I am a preferred provider with most insurances, so those covered by insurance keep coming, but my cash clients have cut back some (especially right after Christmas)….and my landlord, seeing that there’s a recession, just upped my rent – not much, mind you, and I still have the best deal in town, but…my income is down some, so I have to plan a bit better. But that’s what you get when you work at the whim of your clients. I don’t eat out as often, I am trying to cut my food budget a little – less “treats” – I’m even starting to bake my own bread.

I’m single, I don’t have an additional income in my household, so it’s up to me :)

(any sugar daddies lurking out there?lol)

When will it improve? I think we’ll see a change about 6 months or so into the year, when the new Prez can start implementing his new back-to-work programs. That might stimulate the economy some. Nowhere to go but up – right?

We have cut back on eating out… and i too am considering baking bread again… something i told myself i wouldn’t do again..

we won’t be buying that new car this year either like i had planned…. and are reevaluating which car to sell on the basis of which car would be the better choice if we kept it another 5 years… not which car works better for us now.

as for buying a house.. i think we will wait and see…

we’re lucky, we aren’t having to make any hard choices yet.

I’m a SAHM so my income has stayed the same but I do worry about my husband losing his job. It hasn’t happened so I shouldn’t be freaking out but I still do.

I have cut back in most areas. I have been trying to go longer between haircuts (won’t leave my stylists), I am not getting my eyebrows waxed…will just pluck myself. No big purchases here. I know it hurts the economy but I don’t want to be the one with big bills and then hurting. Just glad we bought our house 9 years ago and have a low interest rate.
