dobroParticipantThey had a big rally in DC today. coverage by Fox, CNN, networks…Guess how many people? 200. That’s right, 200. Let’s see,70,000 people in Wisconsin rallying in the snow…takes two weeks to get a mention…200 baggers on a 45 degree and raining day in DC…coverage by MSM plus they make the excuse that the weather may have held down attendance. Even with teabag headliners Bachmann and Paul in attendance.

The whole tea party BS is another well funded right wing distraction to keep the peons divided while the corporate overlords laugh all the way to the bank. How does any tea bagger not get that they’re being played for fools?
April 1, 2011 at 4:38 am #721465
CaitParticipantIf someone so much as mentions Michelle Bachman’s name I get angry. I couldn’t agree more with your title.
April 1, 2011 at 5:27 am #721466
dhgParticipantPerhaps fox news will show the empty space where all those people gathered so we can imagine thousands.
April 1, 2011 at 5:38 am #721467
JanSParticipantImagination is a good thing, MB, SP, and others imagine that they know how to run a country well..it must lead to many interesting dreams for them…nightmares for us :)

HunterGParticipantI watched “Real Time” the other night and one of the panel members was Ed Rendell, he said something I saw as wonderful in regards to th RP and the Tea Party, or “Tea Baggers” as Bill calls them.
I haven’t found the exact quote but in a nutshell it was: The right is reaching so far into the realms of ridiculous and inhumane that they are essentially digging a hole for themselves in 2012 and there is no way democrats cannot win the Presidency and probably soon after, the house.
Lets let them dig their hole.
April 1, 2011 at 5:47 am #721469
CaitParticipantHunter – I heard this same thing! It’s the only thing giving me the silver lining feeling. Similarly I heard a theory from a friend that the Westboro Baptist Church is just comprised of atheists who are trying to give Christians a bad name.
Both filed under – Awful… But At Least Not As Influential As I Thought…
April 1, 2011 at 6:22 am #721470
HunterGParticipantCait, me too. But unfortunately on the edge of this hope I remember what my late grandfather always said to me “Sport, never underestimate the power of human stupidity.”
I have a theory too. It is based upon animal instinct and survival. Need I say more?
What I don’t get and cannot understand is these politicians seem to forget that the “People” elect them. They have to be voted for. (Hopefully) Their actions that are amazing, laughable and infuriating are seen by all in this age of information – what makes them think they will be elected again? It makes me want to move to their state and then back to west seattle just so I can vote against them.
April 1, 2011 at 6:59 am #721471
dobroParticipantHere’s the problem with that “election” thing. I don’t think a lot of these bonehead baggers care about re-election. It’s all about hoodwinking everyone once to get in office, then sell out to the highest bidder, cash in and retire from office ASAP (like gov Quitty McQuitter from AK). I’m sure that Walker in WI is looking forward to his payoff after he monkey wrenches unions and sells off public lands. These a**holes don’t care about public service. And they’ve got their bagger base that’s too dense to see they’ve been played.
April 1, 2011 at 8:33 am #721472
HMC RichParticipantThen you enlightened citizens have nothing to worry about do you. If they are such nutjobs, they don’t pose any threat. Why are complaining? If the tea partiers are Kochaholics, then why should that affect you? God I love how happy you must be. You should party. You have nothing to worry about. Congratulations.
April 1, 2011 at 8:45 am #721473
JanSParticipantHMC Rich..wrong. It’s that “nuttiness” that’s scary. Now they’re talking doing away with Soc. Security, Medicare. And they’re going after AARP because the group supports health care reform. And don’t get us started on what they’re doing to women’s health rights. And then there’s the unions, that all of a sudden are..socialist…have to be rid of them. It’s starting small, but, hey, there’s a lot of damage to be done before it’s over. I’m not seeing much done about the economy and jobs, what they were sent there to do…no, they jump on abortion, and taking rights away.
April 1, 2011 at 1:13 pm #721474
TDeParticipantThe fascists in Germany during the late 1920s and early 1930s were a bunch of underestimated nut jobs, too. Who could have possibly believed their rantings would someday produce a leader that would capture the imagination of an entire nation and eventually lead that nation to utter ruin and cost countless thousands of lives. HunterG’s grandfather was correct.
April 1, 2011 at 3:32 pm #721475
casabobaMemberEvery time one mentions the tea-partiers one legitimizes them; even when bashing them. I suggest ignore them.
Let them continue to be a noisy voice for the extreme right. Their efforts merely splinter and dilute the overall right.
Put energy and efforts behind the issues & candidates one believe in. The potential for meaningfull gains is greater.
April 1, 2011 at 3:49 pm #721476
dobroParticipant“Why are complaining? If the tea partiers are Kochaholics, then why should that affect you?”
It affects me because these nutjobs are being used in the service of people (like the Koch Bros) to install an oligarchy in place of the democratic institutions that are part of the American way of life. The rich white guys at the top are also nutjobs but they’re not stupid and those billions can purchase a lot of power, propaganda, and influence.
BTW, I’m not complaining, I’m asking a question. The original question was how do the baggers manage to miss the fact that they’re being played for fools by the plutocrats?
April 1, 2011 at 5:07 pm #721477
charlabobParticipantRich, you seem to think you benefit from the presence of teabaggers — one of the scariest things to me is that the few remaining conservative but sane republicans don’t seem to understand they have much more to worry about than we (choose your expletive) do.
You might want to look at the latest list of teabagger R “targets”. Chuck Hagel? Orin Hatch? RINOS?????
April 1, 2011 at 5:11 pm #721478
JoBParticipantcasaboda…
i am afraid TDe nailed it…
we ignore them at our own peril.
Every morning when i open my email i am inundated with news of legislation that would have been impossible in American only a decade ago.
These guys are playing for keeps..
and there is so much of it that it has become commonplace…
no-one even comments much any more when i pass this stuff along.
My greatest … though i think not unfounded.. fear …
is that the real goal is a complete dissolution of our democracy…
People shouting slogans they obviously don’t understand are destroying the very liberties they think they stand for.

dawsonctParticipantInteresting avatar Rich. Personal hero?
Casa, the best disinfectant is sunlight. We ignore extremism among us at our own peril.
In fact, my theories have been the same as dobro’s. I believe that the more we put the Koch brother’s, Richard Mellon-Scaife, the Coors family, etc. activities out in the public light, more will understand how their prejudices and biases have been played on by these and many other VERY wealthy people who have ONLY their own interests at heart. Destroying services that affect positively ALL our lives, in order to pay for tax breaks to super-wealthy individuals, and the world-wide corporations they control, who and which have no real vested interest in seeing the continuing success of the American middle-class, is finally becoming obvious even to the person who usually only spends two weeks every four years paying attention to politics. Talking loudly about what these non-patriots are doing to our Nation is the only way we have to fight back against them.
They control the media, their media reports on them ALWAYS in a favorable light. It is up to us as citizens to talk about it and sound the alarm.
April 1, 2011 at 7:00 pm #721482
TDeParticipantI must correct my earlier post. It wasn’t countless thousands who lost their lives because of the “nut jobs” in Germany… it was millions. And those who don’t read, learn or try to understand history really can be doomed to repeat it.
April 1, 2011 at 7:12 pm #721483
dawsonctParticipantUnfortunately, they sometimes take the rest of us along for the ride.
Support for my previous post:

casabobaMemberC’mon, you folks are “APRIL FOOL’IN” me! Projecting pre-WW II conditions in Germany which gave rise to Hitler to Current conditions in the USA leading to a “second coming” of a modern day “Adolph Hitleresque” type of political leader / party in the USA? Too many mixed metaphores for me. Luckily we live and I believe will continue to live in a country where everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
April 1, 2011 at 7:27 pm #721485
JoBParticipantApril 1, 2011 at 7:45 pm #721486
TDeParticipantNot talking specifically about a Hitler-like figure taking over here … just using history as an example of what can happen when “nut jobs” are ignored and end up in power positions, due to whatever socio-economic conditions accelerate their cause. Read dawsonct’s link to see what I’m beginning to hear from several leading economists. If our tenuous economic recovery is stifled we’ll have lots of fertile ground for craziness. Just sayin…
April 1, 2011 at 10:45 pm #721487
charlabobParticipantI can’t think of anyone on that side who is as competent as hitler. He was very evil and very effective. Current crop is just evil.
WRT to economics, read “Shock and Awe” by Naomi Klein to see what is going on here (and has gone on world wide for decades.)

Genesee HillParticipantThe United States of America has many citizens who are “blind nationalists”. Just like any country in history. We are right because we are Americans. We are obviously superior to the other countries of the world because we are Americans! And, God is on our side!
