celeste17ParticipantHi all-
I noticed that the junction seems to be doing some growing with a new restaurant opening this spring. And it lead me to think of other type of businesses we would like to see. I would like to see a bubble tea store. I have gotten hooked on those. I would also like to see a clothing store that caters to the plus size woman. What other type of restaurants would you like to see?

shihtzuParticipantA drive through place that serves healthy food. When I’m stuck with a sleeping baby in the car, I get tired of Starbucks and McDonalds is a bad bad habit to get into.
And a sandwich shop on Alki. Maybe the new grocery store will serve this purpose, but during the summer, there’s really not anywhere to get good picnic food to go.
Kidd Valley Burgers.
And of course…a Trader Joes.

barmargiaMemberCeleste I like your idea of the plus size store, I’m by no means a size 6.
A Red Mill Burger

shihtzuParticipantI too agree about the clothing store. I’ve never even been in any of the boutiques in town. I’m about 99% sure I couldn’t wear any of their clothes.

AnonymousInactiveI would LOVE to personally open a Potbelly’s sandwich shop, but they don’t franchise… bummer!!
I was in Flagstaff and went to a coffee/martini bar there and thought that was a pretty cool idea.
Another kind of neat idea (but the laws would have to be researched), would be a cigar bar. Believe it or not, a lot of people still smoke and are forced to smoke outside only all over America. In Arizona they have cigar bars where they sell cigars and patrons are allowed to smoke indoors. I think success depends on whether there is a big enough market.
Even though I would love to open and run a place like some of those ideas, I think they are really hard work and take a lot more dedication than I probably have.

WSMomParticipantI’d love to see a butcher shop with a real live meat cutter on-site, a little cheese shop, an organic fruit & vege stand, and a flower shop (I’m imagining rue Cler in Paris).
I also would love to continue to see consignment stores like Funky Janes.

beachdrivegirlParticipantA cheese shop would be wonderful. And on a different note, not quite the Junction, but I would love to see a coffee shop or wine bar go in across teh street for La Rustica. it is a nice little place for rent which says it has been okayed for retail… anyone have an extra few thousand lieing around.. i promise to be a customer. :)

AnonymousInactiveBDG – I can’t believe you brought that up! That is the exact spot (the brick building) that my guy and I were looking at and considering for a coffee/martini bar!!! In your opinion, would a coffee/wine bar be better?
From what I understand, the tenants right next door have done a really good job of keeping a restaurant from occupying that space. But my problem with that is, you know that they saved money in their purchase BECAUSE they are right next door to retail space! Now they want to dictate what business will go their?!?
April 24, 2008 at 12:48 am #622805
shihtzuParticipantIn my opinion, wine would be much better than martinis!
April 24, 2008 at 12:57 am #622806
beachdrivegirlParticipantI perfer wine but alot of my friends perfer martinis. i would be excited with either! that is really annoying that the tenants next door are that picky about what goes into that space. i half way would love to do it myself but have no idea how to get started anyone have any ideas??

JenVMemberceleste17- there used to be a bubble tea store in the junction- where the artists collective is now. they were there for a few years…..with you on the clothing store, but I doubt that will ever happen. what I would like to see? specialty beer/wine shop would be great. I would also like to see the developers who are tearing down half the junction (and taking away great shops like Funky Jane’s, The Rocksport, Super Supplements, Rubato Records & Sound Advice) change their minds and take their stupid development back to Belltown where buildings like that belong.
April 24, 2008 at 1:22 am #622808
ErikParticipantI could walk there, make it martinis!
April 24, 2008 at 1:35 am #622809
beachdrivegirlParticipantSo erik you want to partner up and open a martini/coffee bar?
April 24, 2008 at 1:37 am #622810
ErikParticipantbusiness is always open for discussion…lol…the big bad corporation is letting me go in a couple months, I should have more time then.
April 24, 2008 at 1:43 am #622811
barmargiaMembermmmm…martinis, but don’t think less of me for liking the fancy flavored ones
April 24, 2008 at 1:49 am #622812
AnonymousInactiveHey… Don’t take my idea!!! Unless I’m included, of course! barmargia…. That’s exactly the idea! Have several different kinds of martinis.
However, a wine bar is a great idea also. It would be hard to choose.
I think the great thing about this idea is that you could be making money during the morning and daytime (coffee) and in the evening (martinis or wine).

AnonymousInactiveErik – You must work where my guy does! Unfortunately, we got some bad news today.
barmargia- I love the fufu ones too!

charlabobParticipant(1) why can’t we drink martinis and wine? I know the licenses are different but … there used to be and probably still is a great martini bar in the charles hotel in hahvahd square. They also served great wines, for those of us who were half on some wagon. Is it a class thing? Winos and real drunks can’t coexist :-) YES WE CAN!
(2) Safeco?
April 24, 2008 at 2:29 am #622817
barmargiaMemberI’m an equal opportunity drinker, and darn it if someone wants to put wine and martinis together I will do what I can to drink each of those. that is my pledge to whoever opens this utopia of booze.

WSBKeymasterdid you also all weigh in on
https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=6909
We posted it at request of the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce which is sincerely interested in your thoughts on the topic. I will flag them to this thread also but it is easier to track that one item for their monitoring purposes than scattered discussions in this area. — TR

beachdrivegirlParticipantThanks lowmanbeach- i had not seen that.
Eric and NR sounds like we have a business plan to make. :) Wine/Martinees/Coffee nothing sounds better than that.
Barmagia you are our first customer right???:)
April 24, 2008 at 3:21 am #622820
JanSParticipantNR/BDG…the space that you’re talking about near La Rustica…is that the bldg. just north of the little park across the street? If so, there used to be an antique store there years and years ago…I was gonna add a 3rd “years ago”…but I’ve aged myself enuff – lol…that would be a great little space for what you envision…and what a view…
I’ll meet you all there when it’s up and running :)
April 24, 2008 at 3:26 am #622821
JanSParticipantnow, talking about clothing stores in the junction…what I’d like to see? Yes, plus size would be nice..being as a size 14 is average now…and I’d also like for them to be affordable. I appreciate that the little clothing shops in the junction right now are kind of “exclusive”…but geez…some of us simply don’t make that kind of money. And shoes? don’t get me started…I don’t spend anywhere near $50 and over for shoes on a regular basis.
