JanSParticipanthi…is it really kosher to place a wanted thingy on here? I’m in need of a parallel printer cable IEEE 1284 with two male ends…or a gender changer to turn a female end into a male end (now, be nice, no jokes here). Before I go buy something I thought I’d run this past the computer geeks in West Seattle :)

cjboffoliParticipantWow, Jan. I can’t believe you’ve still got a printer that works with a parallel cable. If no one here can come through for you I’d recommend you visit RE-PC (www.repc.com) down in So Do.

SueParticipantJan, Phil said he probably has one in his vast box of computer cables – can’t guarantee it, but thinks he does. He probably can’t take a look until tonight, but I’ll let you know one way or another.

JanSParticipantNow, Christopher, they’re not that ancient ;-)They still sell them at Staples, et.al. hehe. I’M the ancient one ;-)
Sue…tell Phil thanks for checking. What I’m doing is connecting two printers..one a color, one a b/w with fax, thru an A/B switchbox, and the cable from the switchbox to the computer is parallel and requires 2 male ends :)

cjboffoliParticipantSorry Jan but I’m a Mac guy. I haven’t had a computer with a parallel connector in more than ten years.

JanSParticipantoh, you Mac guys…now don’t get smug on me ;-)

PSPSParticipantIf you have to buy what you want, avoid the office supply stores (Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, etc.) They mark them way up.
.
I get these things either via mail-order (pcconnection.com is a good place) or from DataPro in Ballard (www.datapro.net).

SueParticipantJan, Phil found a spare cable for you. Give me a call and we’ll try and find a time when you can swing by for it.
PSPS, do you find that it’s still cheaper to order online than going to an office supply store after factoring in the shipping charges too? I find shipping charges lately have gotten very high and I’ll try an order a $3 item that costs $12 to ship and just forget about it.

JanSParticipantyeah…I’m finding that, too. There are places like Overstock.com that I think charges a flat 2.95..I think…don’t quote me, it may be another place – lol….
I am starting more and more to shop locally. I don’t have a commute, so don’t use the car very much, so I don’t mind going to westwood for something…or SODO. I guess when Office Depot is done, Staples will lose a bit of business.
I’ve always gotten my business cards from Vista Print. Almost every day I get e-mails for something free…but the shipping and handling still ding you for quite a bit…ain’t nuthin’ free !
I won’t have an evening free until…well..until maybe Friday – lol…or like 8pm on Thursday. But if Phil will be working at home any time this week, I do have time between clients..Wednesday afternoon before 3:30pm..Thursday morning/early afternoon…
we’ll work it out. It’s not an emergency. Tell him thanks for looking :)

JanSParticipantHave cable, will..ummm…will…uh…try it out – lol…thanks for the help, Sue and Phil…I appreciate it :)
