jamminjMemberDBP, wholly agree with you there. Obama made the mistake in trying to work with the republicans on the healthcare plan. Every tenant of the ACA were born from republican ideas, Obama, hoping they would go along with their own proposals. What he didn’t understand was that they were more concerned about bringing him down that actually helping this country.
If ACA goes down, which i hope it does (although it would create a mess for those items already started) , then we can have some real reform.
And that’s what it should be called. Something that is already in place, something everyone is comfortable with, and something that no one wants touched, well except maybe Ryan.

DBPMemberIf you want a single payer plan… go to Olympia for it. Let each state decide for itself what it will and won’t accept. You will never be in sync in WA state with the 27 red states who do not share your values or your approach to governance.
There is merit in this argument, kootch, although I suspect it’s just a rhetorical feint on your part, because I’m sure you’d be just as opposed to a statewide plan as you are to a nationwide one.
But never mind that. If Washington could implement statewide coverage (like Massachusetts and Vermont) I’d go for that.
Eventually Southerners would sit up and say: “Gotta get me some of that.”

jamminjMember“We have a hell of a lot more control over DoD”
did you take your meds kootch, this statement is just ridiculous. As citizens we have NO control over the DoD, a soldier has no control over the DoD….
the President, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Sec of Defense, among others are in control of the DoD… are you arguing that you have influence over Dr. Gates???

jamminjMemberIronically, the only reason there’s a case is because the Democrats were trying to act like Republicans. Had they gone for the single-payer model (“socialized medicine”) that’s common in other rich countries or enforced it through a tax, there’d be no challenge.
Instead, they opted for a private sector solution and a “penalty” rather than a tax, and that’s why the Supreme Court may strike down all or part of the law.

jamminjMember“What’s more, taxing someone who doesn’t have health insurance would also likely be found constitutional. There are lots of instances where people pay higher taxes if they don’t make particular economic decisions (renters pay more than homeowners, people who don’t buy hybrid vehicles pay more than those who do, etc.)”
This is what I believed was going to happen when ACA was first introduced, I believed what they called a ‘penalty’ was going to be a tax break for those who do have insurance. Just like a buying a home. If i don’t buy a house, I am penalized and pay a higher tax, forcing me to buy a house to get a lower tax payment. To me that’s still a penalty – forcing me to buy a private enterprises product to not pay the tax. But its not called a penalty for non-homeowners, but a break for homeowners instead.
Just that little change, and there would be no court challenge.

don’t count on that. Look at how they typically vote, usually against their best interest.

jasonmyersParticipantOur healthcare has been waiting for reform for a very long time, and it should happen ASAP. Our people are suffering because of our government’s laziness. And that’s where we step in for our healthcare development mobile app for doctors and patients that will completely change the medicine game once and for all. I highly recommend you all to visit our site and read about our project. It is a game changer.
