    Recreation Program Specialist

    SALARY: $25.22 – $29.36 Hourly

    LOCATION:South Park Community Center, 8319 8th Avenue South, Seattle 98108, Washington

    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    Work with Seattle Parks and Recreation Community Center Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, Teen Leader and Life Long Learning staff to plan and implement recreational program opportunities for South Park neighborhood.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    This position is responsible for administering and supervising staff and volunteers, ensuring program outcomes, building strong community partnerships, coordinating with community agencies to leverage resources and collaboratively provide services. Meets with neighborhood and community groups to identify program needs and develop program action plans with the Center Coordinator. Though this position will be youth/teen focused; additional responsibilities could include adult programs and sports.

    This position consults with Community Center Coordinator to help interpret program policies and operating guidelines. This position may assign and monitor the work of intermittent staff and volunteers for program support. Monitors budget expenditures and prepares budget recommendations for various programs as needed. Develop program brochures and flyers for community distribution. This position disseminates program information to individuals, groups and the general public.

    Work closely with the Advisory Council for input and feedback on programs, implementation of programs, grants and fundraising events. Provide technical expertise and department assistance to community, neighborhood groups, schools, and other organizations interested in partnership opportunities to enhance or expand programs for the community.

    Required Qualifications: Requires one year experience coordinating recreation programs and a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Recreation Administration, Physical Education or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an

    equivalent background). A valid Washington State Driver’s License. First Aid and CPR Certificate within six months of hire.

    Desired Qualifications: Ability to speak Spanish. Experience with successful grant writing and grant administration. Excellent community relations skills and effective working with diverse populations; which include immigrant and first generation refugee populations. Ability to work in partnership with citizens, businesses, public schools, and other youth serving agencies to design, implement, and evaluate recreational programs. Effective team building and staff supervision skills. Excellent customer services skills. Efficient skills with computer software, which includes MS Word, Excel, Power Point and any program/scheduling software.

    Note: The successful candidate will be expected to work evenings and frequent weekends.
