BabyPantsMemberHi all, I am in need of a really good alterations person to work on a Bridesmaid dress for me. If it were simple hemline work or a forgiving fabric I’d take it to my dry-cleaners, but this is a satin dress that needs to be taken out a little bit and I need someone really good. Any thoughts or suggestions as to a recommendation? Thank you!

addParticipantMany folks recommend Mrs. Kim at Fit All Alterations on California, a block north of Cafe Ladro. She is very talented, reasonable, and fast!

kmweinerMemberI use her and she is nice and, imho, is just ok. My work is generally just hems, etc. I would not take her something as good as you describe.

BabyPantsMemberThanks add… I wouldn’t hesitate to try Mrs. Kim, but, like km said, I’m hesitant to have her work on something like this. Any other suggestions? I’m willing to travel outside WS if need be as well. Thanks!

inactiveMemberGot to chime in about Mrs. Kim’s skills.
She has taken in a winter coat, blazers, blouses, dresses, pants. Big projects constituting rebuilding the garment and customizing to a flawless fit and all were impeccably done.
Seriously don’t hesitate to try her. I’ve complete trust in her. She does get busy though because she knows her stuff. My only suggestion would be to allow plenty of time for her so it isn’t a rush job.

cjboffoliParticipantI used to go to Mrs. Kim. But I had to stop after she kept missing deadlines. I’d give her plenty of time. Weeks would go by and I’d go to pick something up only to learn she hadn’t started and never thought to call to tell me not to come to pick up the order. This happened multiple times. Really nice woman. Just apparently overwhelmed with business and not exceptionally organized.
.
I’ve since discovered that Wardrobe Cleaners in the Triangle does alterations. They’re fast, professional and reasonably priced. And they always have the stuff ready when they say they will!

MrsLMemberFor my wedding dress, I used Jenny Manes in Magnolia (http://www.jennymanes.com/). She did an amazing job with my dress. I don’t know price-wise how she compares but she is very good. I did live in Magnolia at the time but I would still have her alter my dress even with all the viaduct construction.
