miwsParticipantJust wanted to give a big shout out to Ken “The Computer Guy”.
My computer died a couple of weeks ago, (power supply went out on it) and I finally got around to getting in touch with Ken yesterday.
Around 18 hours later, I was back online!
Ken donates his time, and in some cases parts (if the needed parts are available from his stock of donated computers/parts), to those on a limited income such as myself (unemployed). In my case, he didn’t have a used power supply “in stock” that would fit my computer, but had a source readily available for a new one, which he only asked for reimbursement of what he paid for the part. If I would have taken my machine to a shop, it certainly would have cost a lot more, and I suppose may have sat there for a few days or so.
He also accepts used computers, parts and such that might be needed for this “program”.
So, huge thanks to Ken, and if any folks out there have any old computers, please get ahold of Ken, and see if it
is something he could use, and consider donating it to him.

flowerpetalMemberCan I chime in based on hearsay and readsay? I have never met Ken and only know him through his kind acts and informative posts here in the forum. I believe that Ken is a good man; a person of high integrity and a treasure belonging to West Seattle. Thanks Ken for all you do.
I raise my water* glass in salute!
*(I am at work you know!)

miwsParticipantFP, funny you should mention that.
I told Ken this morning that I’d always wanted to give him huges raves just based on hearsay, and “readsay”, (I might have to steal that term for posting elsewhere ;-) ) but now I have had personal benefit of his kindness and generosity.
I’m adding him to my list of benefactors for if I ever become rich and (hopefully stay un)famous. ;-)

celeste17ParticipantI have used Ken a few times (and will be using him again this week) and he has always been there when needed. He will do phone consultations with you and will send you information on where to buy parts for a really old machine. I like that you can call and most times come by that day.
I have told others about him and hope that Ken is around for a long time.
Thank You for all you do in helping us poor computer illiterate people. :)

CarolMMemberSo who is this Ken and how do I get in touch with him?
May 20, 2010 at 5:16 pm #694693
celeste17ParticipantHi CarolM,
Ken is a WSB forum member. He has been working with computers for a long time and has posted advice on various viruses and computer questions here on the blog. The best way to reach Ken is via phone 206-801-0349. He works out of his house and lives in the Hight Point area of West Seattle. He works on donations. Great man.

GAnativeParticipantI’ll 2nd (or is that 11th) the RAVE for Ken!
He helped me pick out a larger/better hard drive for my netbook when the old one crashed earlier this year.

SlammerkinParticipantMore thumbs up for Ken! He set up a wireless connection for me some months ago. I had originally used my provider to set it up, but couldn’t stay connected. Two house calls and seven techs later, I returned their router and called Ken.
First he helped me choose a router (saved a bundle right there), then he quickly figured out the problem and got me up and running.
Ken is the proverbial wealth of knowledge and a real gentleman–enjoyed every minute spent with him. I plan on using him to hold my hand for the dreaded Windows 7 upgrade. Thanks Ken!

celeste17ParticipantHe is currently fixing a laptop for me. I have been having problems with it for about a week and finally got it to him. He ran all the usual tests and couldn’t find the problem and then ran a hardware test and found out the Hard Drive is failing. I was in touch with him today and he has already transferred the HD and is working on the other quirks that are needed to get a HD up and running. I would be lost without him.

TammiWSMemberFive thumbs up for Ken! He took my laptop over the weekend to take a look at bluescreen issues, ran a myriad of tests, added some malware type software I probably should have had, did a complete maintenance overhaul on it AND spent time talking to me about things I should be doing to maintain my laptop as well as offering up further help if needed.
Great guy who has a passion for computers, networking, hardware, software, technology in general – and is a huge asset to us WS. I’d suggest getting in touch with him if you need any computer help.
Thanks Ken! :)
