So…check it out…again…it’s just people like you and me giving an opinion…but there’s a LOT of positive reviews…

joshMemberUnfortunately, I guess i don’t have such exquisite taste buds like you all fine people here do or may be quite opposite…The simple point I am trying to make is that may be I missed something good about that place and People that are restaurant critics (and you know, it is an actual profession) can point it out to me. And the fact that I’m minority among comments here, what does if have to do with anything? A lot of you here discuss dog poop laws and bus cell phone talkers all day long. So what do you know?

Yelp is really shifty. I have noticed positive comments that were on there before aren’t there anymore. It is really strange and I don’t know why that is happening. I would think the “positive” writers would also write negative reviews because it would scare the business owners enough to make them want to give money to Yelp to get them removed.
Basically, you can’t trust anything you read. All you can do is give a place a try and listen to the people that have been there (people you know). Like I said on my comment above, it is getting busier and busier and that is all the proof we need to know that it is a great place to eat.

JanSParticipantI totally agree with you…there have been many instances in my life (or my life pre-divorce – lol) where we read a review that wasn’t very good (by a “professional”), and had a wonderful meal. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..and not everyone will agree on a place. And sometimes your second experience at the place is a total turnaround from your first…
gee, if we all simply liked everything, and we all agreed all the time, how boring would that be – lol…
I don’t give Yelp much power in my life..I don’t visit their website often…:)

It seems to me that Cafe Revo has mega-RAVES as opposed to a few RANTS. And, I always have a tendency to read between the lines when someone gives a long, detailed, tedious step-by-step complaint ,i.e., what was the complainers attitude during the event. Could it have generated a negative response?
I know I’ve had a few occasions where I’ve been negative about something and I know it comes across loudly in my voice, body language, etc. Not proud of that, but guess it’s probably human nature as I’ve occasionally witnessed it in others.
Just my opinion, folks.

I suppose you are talking about your own comments about YOUR sisters restaurant being removed by Yelp.
If this is indeed the case, then they are just doing their job right. And it makes me trust them even more. It’s called conflict of interest and that is exactly what I was talking about at the beginning of this thread.
Or and about giving then another chance, I’ve been there 3 times and i think “3 is a charm”.

JanSParticipantjosh…apologies for any namecalling, etc directed at you (post # 55)…if people take the chance to read the rules of this forum…it’s not supposed to get personal like that. We may not agree with your opinion, but it’s your opinion, and it’s valid, just as those who like Revo have valid opinions..as I said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I agree with you, if you have been there 3 times, and all three experiences were less than stellar in your eyes, then..probably another italian restaurant is calling you :)

WSBKeymasterI don’t usually comment on this publicly but just for the record, comment 55 was erased by its author, not by us, empty when we followed the link from a member report about it a few minutes ago.
Also please note in the discussion about Yelp that someone has taken the time to post some links in a different thread regarding the news coverage of its ALLEGED – I stress alleged — policies. I had read several stories about it last month and contributed a few links, including a response from Yelp itself, for those who want to read more.

I have received another flag suggesting this thread has derailed far enough to be closed and am reviewing whether that’s so. Seems like the topic of professional vs. amateur reviewing may be a discussion onto itself, if you can have it civilly. Although take note, professional reviews are less likely to be had these days – or, you will want to look for them in different places – the PI’s food writer/reviewer, for example, is not with the online version of the site. Garden_nymphMemberIn the words of Rodney King, “Can’t we all just get along?” Have a great day all. Again, I want to thank everyone who contributes to these discussions. It makes for interesting reading and always provides me with information I would not have otherwise had. Bottom line, Cafe Revo, love it or leave it- or give it some time to get up to full steam. Just like every other business out here, it won’t please everyone and you either become a patron of it, or not.

OliverMemberFor the record, I am not related to the owners and do not know them. I’m just a West Seattle resident that enjoyed a darn good meal at a great addition to the neighborhood. I will say this, though. My family used to own a restaraunt. It’s hard work and a labor of love. I find that most owners put their blood, sweat and tears into it to fulfill a dream. So, if you had one disappointing meal, so what? Is it really worth trampling on someone else’s dreams. Give ’em a chance, I’m betting that this is a place that survives in a tough industry.
