GrazieParticipantThere was a thread awhile back about areas in West Seattle where Pizza Delivery just won’t happen. I am beginning to wonder if the same holds true for local Contractors?
Lucky to get a call back nowadays, but lately even that small miracle has turned into “…will swing by in the afternoon…” followed by NO SHOW.

realvalueremodelerParticipantHi Grazie,
Could I be the guy to change your story about local contractors? You should find great recommendations for me and my company on the blog and I’ve been known to show up for my appointments.
all the best,

WSBKeymasterGrazie – apologies in advance if any of them are among those you’ve tried to get to stop by, but I do have to say, we always appreciate when people choose to use WSB sponsors, or at least check them out, and we happen to have a half-dozen local contractors on the WSB sponsor team. Peruse the sidebar and/or see the WSB Sponsors directory page (which is categorized):
Good luck with whatever you are trying to get done.

funkietooParticipantVentana Construction is local and family owned by Anne and Clarence. They perform quality work; are on time; excellent communicators; and easy to work with. Give them a call. 206-932-3009. (and yes, they are a WSB sponsor)

GrazieParticipantWill add those to my “try next” book, and thanks!

dhgParticipantBill Babb at Better Builders is a great contractor who will take personal responsibility for his company’s actions. If he says he’ll be there, he will. Better Builders can be counted on. http://www.betterbuilders.com/

JanSParticipantwas just sitting here thinking…try saying Bill Babb at Better Builders really fast 10 times :D

robirdaParticipantJust because they are Sponsors of the WSB doesn’t mean they’re good. I recently had a horrific experience with one of the Blogs Sponsor’s. I’m planning on posting something soon regarding the entire remodel/restoration. Feel free to ask if planning to use a Contractor from WSB-Sponsors.

AimParticipantI HIGHLY recommend Bob Harrison, who is new to town but local, and not just dependable – his prices are fair, he has good knowledge of multiple outdoor projects and all parts of landscape, design, yard work, hardscaping, etc. 562-499-9540
Also recommend Adam at Clean Air Lawn Care. 206-841-4180 Holy cow. Our last guy was the king of the no-call no-show and then billing us $500 in trumped up charges for days he never showed up, and when called out on it said he was “saving up the hours” to do some bigger projects. Yeah. Right. Anyway, Clean Air has been dependable, inexpensive, quiet (!! solar powered tools are sooo quiet!) and most of all, he does a fair pricing plan with a list of everything that should be done in a year, quote it, split it to a flat monthly charge, and then he shows up when he says he will. He told us we were on Monday mornings, and he’s shown up at 10am every Monday since. He’s exceptional. And the yard looks fantastic. His edging is so perfect it’s almost scary. AND he doesn’t use harmful chemicals, so our veggies and fruits are safe to eat straight from the plants. Couldn’t recommend him any more highly.

GrazieParticipantHeads Up if someone is planning to use Ventana – they report their schedule booked through January.
Note: if the project is less than 25,000.00 don’t bother calling
September 17, 2013 at 5:51 pm #796811
JanSParticipantwell, Ventana is a popular(and good reputation) business. That’s only a few months out.
Now..do you have a source about that 25K? Did someone tell you that? Or are you just assuming?
September 17, 2013 at 6:53 pm #796812
GrazieParticipantVentana phrased it more politely, but yes, 25 to 30K was quoted to me as the lower limit for Contractor Involvement.

VentanaConstructionParticipantGrazie, it’s Anne from Ventana here. I think you are the person I talked with at length on the phone this morning about a project you need done immediately and some future projects that do not fall into the type of project that we are currently taking on, particularly when as busy as we are.
We are indeed booked out a few months right now, as are many other contractors. Having said that, it’s not too early to start planning a project that would start early next year, so we welcome calls from anyone planning a project in 2014.
We also welcome phone calls and are happy to talk with people just like you who we may not be able to help immediately, but may be able to point in the direction of other options (which I did with you).
The conversations we have with potential clients are private and are specific to the person and project. They are not intended for public dissemination, extrapolation or application to other people and projects. Every project is unique and custom and requires a custom response.
Further, depending on the time of year and how busy we are, we take on a variety of work at a variety of price points.
All of that makes it disappointing to have spoken with you privately on the specifics of your project and have you post that information, unsolicited, in a public forum with your interpretation of our availability and business practices, and summarizing that people shouldn’t “bother” calling us. I know you were trying to be helpful to others currently looking for contractors, but what you did was really not helpful to our business.

angelescrestParticipantRobirda–
I too had an awful experience with a sponsor that left me quaking–fearful.
I’m curious if it was the same as yours.

DianaParticipantAnne at Ventana: Well writ and right on!
September 22, 2013 at 11:41 pm #796816
deenerParticipantAs a former Ventana customer, I have nothing but good things to say about Anne and Clarence, and would recommend them to anyone. They are honest, respectful and have a lot of integrity. The fact they are booked until the end of the year should reflect that. Not only is Ventana a great small business, but they they have given back to our community in many ways.
