    Part-Time Math Teacher for 6th grade
    (10 months 0.4 FTE)

    Located in the Arbor Heights neighborhood of West Seattle, Westside serves 330 students in preschool through eighth grade. Westside’s Middle School serves 140 students in 5th-8th grade and is organized into two grade-level teams who collaborate to both implement and design meaningful curriculum.

    The Part-Time Math Teacher for 6th grade will teach math to two small classes of 6th graders (of approximately 8 students each) four times a week, participating part-time in the life of the school, and upholding the mission, vision, and values of Westside School.

    Reports to: Middle School Head

    Key responsibilities of this role will include:
    Perpetuating a highly engaged student and faculty culture, characterized by high expectations and a strong sense of community.
    Teaching two half-sections of sixth grade math, each 4 x 55 minute periods a week.
    Differentiating instruction to serve both high achievers and those needing extra support.
    Collaborating closely with the 5th/6th grade full-time Math Teacher and the Director of Learning Support and Instruction.
    Attending faculty and community meetings, when schedule allows, and participating in the life of the school.
    Option to participate in outdoor excursions in both the fall and spring trimesters.

    Successful candidates will have the following personal and professional attributes:
    Math teaching experience in the middle school grades.
    A degree in education, mathematics, or a related field.
    Fluency in a variety of instructional techniques and approaches.
    Experience in developing curriculum and differentiating instruction to serve both high achievers and those needing extra support.
    Compassion for the social and emotional needs of 6th graders.
    Enthusiasm for working collaboratively with colleagues including the desire to plan integrative curriculum experiences across disciplines.
    Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff.
    Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents.
    An expressed effort to collaborate with colleagues, accept feedback, and conduct oneself in a professional manner.
    A positive attitude and sense of humor.
    Masters Degree preferred.

    Start Date: August 17, 2020

    Compensation and Benefits: This is a part-time (0.4 FTE) position for the 2020-2021 academic school year.
