rico.. those are your needs.. not theirs.

beyond a new home.. they always have a need for firewood…

unfortunately, it needs to be delivered.

i recently learned from an email exchange with Nickelsville and someone who volunteered firewood that the camp currently has no means of picking up firewood

and at the moment i don’t know any volunteers who have both the time and means to do so.

i was also told that their water delivery will end at the end of this or next month… the person who told me wasn’t clear which. You would probably need to contact Scott Morrow at Nickelsville for the details.

Hi luckymom, I couldn’t find a current/recent needs list on the Nickelsville Works FB Page, but I’d suggest calling the NV Security Desk, 206-450-5268, and see if they have a list that they could read off to you, or have you talk to a Donation Co-Ordinator.

Otherwise, historically the ongoing needs have been:

Tents; I’d call down for specific sizes, in case the size limits have changed, but in general, One person, couples, and family tents.

    Batteries: AA AAA C D 9-volt.

    Tarps.

    Hygiene supplies.

    Bus tickets.

Pet Supplies; call and ask for a Pet Co-Ordinator for specifics on food, but historically ongoing needs have been leashes, harnesses, toys.

    Canned meats, fruits, veggies.

    Top Ramen, Cup-o-Noodles, etc.

That’s about all that comes to mind right now.

    Thanks for thinking of them!

    Mike

You are right Job, this is all about me, nothing to do with all the upstanding community members whose lives/property values/safety etc have been negativley affected by the illegal occupancy of public land.

They don’t need jobs apparently. I just finished 15 days of cleaning a hoarder’s house, and not one person from NV was interested in 20 hour. And now reading this: There was about 3 cords of firewood for the taking, using my truck and my full help. I’m disgusted.

I have wood from a large branch that was cut out of my tree; I’d love to donate it but I have no way to cut it up and it’s too big to fit in my car. If anyone has a truck I would gladly help load and unload it.

The homeless problem over in Hawaii is far worse than in Seattle per capita wise. There’s easily more than 3,000 living on the beach or parks in Honolulu illegally. Yeah…..the weather there is paradise for them.

Singularname – would you be willing to elaborate on your experience regarding seeking workers from Nickelsville?

I try to stay out of this whole debate because I know I’m biased; the only **Homeless** person I ever knew did have a crappy upbringing but then used and mistreated everyone who tried to help him, so I’m not very empathetic.

My brother is a complete trainwreck (finances, romances, ect…) but because he has a good work ethic he’s never been homeless- teatered at the brink a few times, but never found himself without a roof over his head.

Job has made some passionate, well reasoned pleas on Nicklesville’s behalf – but doesn’t go into specifics. Will you?

Why would you need a job when there are almost daily deliveries of food, fuel, clothing, etc. brought to you at NV?

Granted you’re sleeping in a tent or a shack, but if your needs are few why not just hang out there and wait for the donations to be delivered to you?

    singlularname..

i wish i had known. i could have connected you with people who want to work…

i just had an able bodied young man contact me yesterday asking if i knew anyone who wanted workers.

yes, there are people living at Nickelsville who would rather sit on their backsides and wait for the delivery of donations.

they don’t want to help unload but you’d be surprised how quickly they show up once the work is done…

however, there are also people living at Nickelsville who are more than willing to work if someone will just give them the opportunity.

Sort of like in this neighborhood, isn’t it?

lots of people who would rather sit on the their backside

and a few who are willing to pitch in and work.

JmmyG…do you really, really think these people are living in the lap of luxury?

….why not just hang out there and wait for the donations to be delivered to you?

JimmyG, envy is not an admirable quality in a person.
