TheJunctionParticipantThe Junction Association is a nonprofit Business Improvement area located in West Seattle. Our West Seattle neighborhood’s main street is center stage. It’s the hub of activity where the West Seattle community connects for coffee, shopping, business activities, doctor visits, dinner, drinks and camaraderie.
We are currently seeking a Grounds Keeper and Maintenance staff member for a part-time position in our district. This position reports to the Executive Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position is responsible for all aspects of general and preventive maintenance within the boundaries of our BIA (Business Improvement Area). The duties include, but are not limited to, removal of consumer litter, and similar sized trash from streets, sidewalks and alleys.During heavy rain, maintenance of storm drain grates and sidewalk drain grates, plus removal of leaves from sidewalks and gutters. In the winter, clearing a walking path in snow in front businesses.
Landscaping duties include weed abatement, trimming bushes, raking leaves, and general landscaping in Junction parking lots, crosswalks and tree wells.
Assisting merchants with light maintenance tasks that relate to business cleanliness.
During festivals increased landscaping and trash removal, plus general festival-related duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintains a clean and trash-free business district.
• Routine painting and some repair work of public benefits such as benches, parking lots and streetscapes.
• Must be able to effectively use general and special equipment, including but not limited to: hand tools, power tools, ladders, landscaping equipment, and required safety equipment.
• Must work safely at all times.
• Attention to detail.
• Honest and trustworthy.
• Dependable.
• Supports West Seattle Junction Association during major festivals including Summer Fest, Harvest Festival, Hometown Holidays and other merchant events.
• Maintains and coordinates storage area use.
• Must complete work in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintains key storage for multiple locations.
• Presents a well-groomed, neat and professional image to merchants.
• Keeps the Executive Director informed regarding work status and all issues
• Maintains confidentiality and discretion at all times.
• Must use reliable transportation.
• Be available for occasional after-hour / weekend emergencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED.
• Consistently operate with tact, discretion and professionalism.
• Effectively interact with BIA merchants and customers of the Junction.
• Ability to effectively work independently, set goals, prioritizes tasks, organize, meet deadlines, multi-task, and accomplish work in a timely manner.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Must be dependable, including regular attendance and punctuality.PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.• Primarily active and mobile and performed indoors and outdoors, and in inclement weather.
• Able to lift/move/operate objects up to 90 pounds (including ladders) and push/pull carts with force.
• Able to perform the essential duties in most weather conditions.Position Hours: Flexible schedule as agreed upon by employee and Executive Director 8 hours per week (additional hours may be required during major festivals)
Compensation: $15.00 / hourly
