Last summer I bought a Toro lawn mower at McLendon’s Hardware in White Center. I went to fire it up this week and could not get it started. I called McLendon’s and asked if they had any ideas. They said, “bring it in and we’ll see if we can help you get it started.” I brought it in today and they worked on it for about half an hour and ultimately replaced the spark plug. We tried to get it started, but it just would not start.

The manager suggested they give me a brand new lawn mower to replace it. They could have easily said, it’s your problem now, contact Toro and have their service people deal with it. But they did not do that. Instead, they solved the problem on the spot, and sent this customer away completely satisfied.

Good customer service has become so rare these days. Forget Home Depot and Lowes, it’s McLendon’s Hardware in White Center from now that gets our business. Kudos to McClendon’s Hardware for providing rare, outstanding customer service.

Yeah, I’m in the middle of several major older house renovation projects and I don’t even have to ponder where I’ll find the endless array of stuff that falls into the “they don’t make them like that anymore” category.

The story’s the same. Either they DO make it and nobody bothers to carry it cuz they can’t move enough of them, or they make something different now but only one type actually works as a direct replacement for the old thing I need and again, nobody carries it.

I just trundle off to McLendon’s and get it and usually get a helpful piece of advice on some arcane element of installation that doesn’t show up anywhere else. (This stuff is especially helpful if you’re having permit inspections.)

On a semi-related note: If you’re looking for some specific dimensional or bulk lumber in non-standard sizes – and McLendon’s doesn’t have it – then you should check out Dunn Lumber in south Burien on 1st Ave. They’ve never failed me either…

McLendons is great! They always seem to have the odd stuff you need that no one else has. I can also find a person to help me when I need it or they get someone quickly. :)
